This is good to hear, however the thin depth chart on the O-line is nothing that Brewster can fix. What happens if we lose any two o-line to injury?

Huh?

Cordle
Browning
Miller
Smith
Blankenship
Shugarts
Adams
Brewster
Longo
Fragel (if need be in the future)
Mewhort
Linsley
Hall

So who are your starting five and what happens if there are injuries?

I assume you are projecting a starting five of Boren, Cordle, Brewster, Adams and Shugart/Browning. And our super subs are Smith, Miller, Blankenship, Shugart/Browning along with 4 true freshmen. It's not dire but I'm also not overly optimistic about the O-line.

How about we take this discussion on the 09 OL to a thread for the 09 OL in the football forum?

Could Connor Smith possibly earn a starting job next season, realistically? Boren and Cordle look like sure-fire starters at OG. But, I'd like to think that Connor Smith could possibly live up to his potential and earn a starting job during his Junior Season. If not, I certainly see him as a starter for the 2010 season at this point.

My guess for the start of the year:
LT: Mike Adams, Andy Miller, Sam Longo
G: Justin Boren, Evan Blankenship, Cory Linsley
C: Mike Brewster, Andrew Moses
G: Jimmy Cordle, Connor Smith, Marcus Hall?
RT: Bryant Browning, J.B. Shugarts, Jack Mewhort

- However, I see Shugarts takes over Browning's spot. Not because Browning isn't good, Shugarts is just that good. Also, I could see Linsley or Hall passing Blankenship.

I'm actually pretty excited about the potential of the line. I'll admit it hasnt been a strong suit in the past, but could this be the year to change it? I surely think/hope so. I dont see Marcus Hall playing inside though, nor do I see him cracking the 2 deep if he does come here. I also saw Mewhort playing center at the under armour game and he did a great job blocking.

I thought I understood from a variety of sources that Bryant Browning really needs to play inside. If he is a starting guard, who will be the odd man out - Boren or Cordle?

I think Browning would be the odd man out in that situation. Boren could end up being our best lineman in that lineup, and Cordle is a senior, so Browning most likely would be the 6th man. In 2009 he could take over for the departing Cordle at one of the guard spots with Shugarts on the outside.
