If you looked at the clips on youtube what you saw are highlights. If you want to know what most zone option read plays look like, look no further than SCUM's 2008 season.

I'd like to see Terrelle be coached to be a bit looser out there, dictate what he's going to do rather than waiting for the moment to arrive. His cautious nature is a great asset for a young QB, but there's a big difference in his play when he is turned loose. In controlled sets in the jersey scrimmage he was beyond average, even poor. When they opened things up a little bit (not dramatically) and went away from scripted plays, he started showing why he's such a special talent.
You don't have to bring in Oregon's offense to accomplish this. Just let TP be TP, to borrow our southern brethren's phrase.

It looks like they do, but they are more of a misdirection team (fake option read them swing pass type of stuff). But take a look at WVU back in their heyday. They had little to no depth/talent at hideout. They ran zone read because they HAD to. When it's figured out, it gets shut down. Once Miami and VaTech left WVU's conference, that's when they started to run amuck on a weak Big East. We have depth and talent at wide receiver and they can do a ton of damage with TP throwing to them (also limiting how much punishment TP takes).
I'm happy with the amount of zone read stuff we have in the playbook. A little more or a little less can depend on the team. I would like to see some against USC because their defense loves to overpursue. I want it to be a wrinkle in our offense, it won't succeed as the base for our offense.

Merih;1533517; said:Now that I can get behind. But let's remember something. Last year we didn't see much innovation due to having a true freshman at quarterback. The year before, we had a stand up pro-style passer. This is the first year with a trustworthy dual threat quarterback since Troy's years. And those years were the only times Tressel had someone like that to work with. It's not that Tressel doesn't innovate, he innovates to match what we have in terms of personnel. In that regard, I think we're going to see some of the wrinkles and innovation that we had in 2006.
Tressel will innovate for Terrelle. Let's not take the Navy game as the end all be all for this offense. Give the playcallers a chance to see what works and we will see marked improvement.
