Added USC game.

OSU: 5 penalties for 37 yards, all offensive. Also had 3 offensive penalties declined. Penalty YPG dropped from 49.0YPG to 43.0YPG.

USC: 4 penalties for 30 yards. Opponents' YPG increased from 10.0YPG to 20.0YPG.

If you look at false starts, there have been 17 in 2007 and again in 2008. The big drop between 2007 and 2008 was in the number of holding penalties; it's substantial (17 to 5). My suspicion is that the change is due to having a more mobile QB. Of the 5 in 2008, two were in the USC game and two were in the Illinois game, so getting called for holding is obviously not much of a problem for our OL. It will be interesting to track those two stats. Nice work.

Added Toledo game.

OSU: 6 penalties for 35 yards, all offensive, 5 of which were false starts. Also had 1 offensive penalty declined. Penalty YPG dropped from 43.0YPG to 40.33YPG.

Toledo: 6 penalties for 50 yards. Opponents' YPG increased from 20.0YPG to 30.0YPG.

I am very impressed with the D. They are well disciplined. One penalty, on an inadvertent facemask in the first three games, and no penalties the last two games is an impressive record. The silver bullets are back!!! Go D!

Added Illinois game.

OSU: 4 penalties for 40 yards. Penalty YPG dropped from 40.33YPG to 40.03YPG.

Illinois: 8 penalties for 71 yards. Opponents' YPG increased from 30.0YPG to 40.03YPG.

Total penalty yards (TPY) for Ohio State and their opponents are identical 4 games into the season. This matches pretty close to previous years through 4 games. In 2007 OSU had 5 more TPY, in 2008 opponents had 3 more TPY.

I'll take 2 offensive penalties for 10 yards any game of the year, even if they are delay and/or false starts. The game total would have been under 20 if not for Coleman's penalty at the end of the game... both sides were very disciplined considering the conditions.
