my thoughts...
Saturday, we went to the AMC Best Picture Showcase ($30 to see all 5 movies... long day)

1. Milk - Good, not great
2. The Reader - boring
3. Benjamin Button - awful
4. Slumdog - GREAT
5. Frost/Nixon - Great

- they definitely got this one right, slumdog deserved all 8 awards

- didnt see the wrestler, so i cant comment on mickey rourke, but i think the guy who played nixon had a much better performance than sean penn in milk.

- wall-e shouldve been up for best picture (replace either the reader or benjamin bitton), and shouldve won best original screenplay

That movie amazed me. And so little dialogue to tell the story. Surprised to hear all the support for Button. It got panned by so many critics. I had a feeling that maybe this was retribution by Hollywood, "how dare you slam a film we spent a ton of money to make."

I haven't seen most of the films up for awards this year, but I did see Changling. Excellent film and the performance by Angelina Jolie was one of the best I've seen in any film.

agreed

well it was one of the best reviewed movie of the year (wrestler was tied with a 97% on the top critics meter on rotten tomatoes), unlike benjamin button (71%) and the reader (60%)

I didn't see The Wrestler or Frost/Nixon, but my neighbor who was friends with Harvey Milk said that Penn nailed that role. He said it was spooky how much Penn was like Milk.

Agree about WALL-E deserving a Best Picture nomination, disagree about it replacing Benjamin Button.
can you elaborate on why you liked BB?
I just didnt see anything likeable about the movie. There was so many plot holes, and really his life was pretty uneventful/interesting. If they were trying to recreate Forest Gump, they failed miserably. At least Gump did important things, and had a lot of relevant stuff happen.

So BB knew the lady that swam accross the channel, then wow he is in the diner and she is on tv... what a coincidence. the whole movie was too contrived.
