Experience - seven position player starters along with six pitchers are a part of 21 returning lettermen - along with flexibility will be the cornerstone for the 2009 Ohio State Buckeyes in their pursuit to win a Big Ten championship and advance to the NCAA tournament for the 13th time under 22nd-year head coach Bob Todd.

The entire starting infield - C Dan Burkhart, 1B Justin Miller, 2B Cory Kovanda, 3B Cory Rupert and SS Tyler Engle – returns intact. Miller, a senior captain, and juniors Kovanda and Rupert have started for two years now and have 331 starts between them. Burkhart and Engle are sophomores.

I have read where we are short on quality starting pitching because of guys either gradually or leaving early and that we do have many power hitters. I can't save this for sure but I don't think we will be contending for the Big 10 championship this year.

Ohio State junior Zach Hurley slides into home during Tuesday's game with Xavier and is tagged out. OSU won the game 9-7. Over the weekend the Buckeyes lost two out of three games to Minnesota.

The No. 18 Ohio State baseball team struggled this weekend, losing two out of three to the Minnesota Golden Gophers.

The series left the Buckeyes with an overall record of 22-7 and 3-3 in the Big Ten.

In their first game Friday night, the Buckeyes were defeated by a score of 7-5. It marked the first time all season the Buckeyes had recorded back-to-back losses.

The Buckeyes scored first on Zach Hurley's 34th RBI of the season in the third inning giving the Buckeyes a 1-0 lead. But that was the last lead that OSU would have. The Gophers stormed back scoring three runs in the bottom half of the third to take a 3-1 lead. They would add four more runs for the day. OSU tried to make it interesting by scoring a run in the seventh and adding three runs in the eighth. Ryan Dew hit a two-out two-run single scoring Michael Stephens and Dan Burkhart to cut the lead to 7-4. They added one more run on a line drive off the bat of Michael Arp, scoring Dew from first.

I guess I don't understand why Ohio State had so few players drafted by major league teams and Kent State had been leased 7. What does that baseball program have to offer that Ohio State doesn't:huh: because it certainly cannot be the facilities because ours are top notch.

Don't get us started. Kent State is a better program right now.

That has been happening for a couple years now and it is time for a new baseball coach at The Ohio State University. His older players like him and help get Bill Davis Stadium built but it sure would be nice to see a consistent winning baseball program in that nice stadium.:wink2:
