2009 NFL draft prospects

No way Hartline bails. Since Robo stayed for his senior, I don't see Hartline no doing the same. Rose and Worthington haven't played all that much...even if they had great years, all that would do is get them attention for their senior years.

With the exception of Beanie, I don't think any current juniors-to-be are set to bail after this season.

Some juniors this year were clearly ready to leave early, such as Gholston, Mendenhall, McFadden, Jonathan Stewart, etc. But, look at a sampling of juniors this year who declared early and got drafted way lower than expected, if they got drafted at all:

Jamaal Charles (73rd)
Steve Slaton (89th)
Mario Manningham (95th)
Erin Henderson (undrafted)

Some got lucky, like Jerod Mayo (#10 overall), but there were a lot of juniors who would've done themselves a ton more good by staying for their senior year. Jake Long is the perfect example of how staying for your senior year can help you out. While he was a sure-fire first-rounder last year, no way was he going to be top-5, let alone the top pick. He made himself millions and millions of dollars by letting Ohio State beat him again. :wink2:

Curtis Lofton out of Oklahoma got drafted #37, but had he stayed for his senior year and played as well as he did his junior year, he would've been a first-rounder. Even improving your spot 10 places, for 37 to 27, is worth a ton of money.

As I said in my original post - "IF", if being the key word. Not a lot of us saw Gonzo bailing even though Ginn left. Not too many saw Doss coming back after 01. And who can honestly say they saw Whitner getting picked up before Leinart, Cutler, Carpenter or Santonio Holmes.

Point is, is that no matter the player, if they had a standout season and hear the money is right after proving to high great seasons and stellar workouts - money talks... Gholston is proven point, not too many knew about him - other than being very muscular - prior to the 08 College season, but after totaling 14 sacks and a great workout in Indy, he rose to a top 10 pick.

Those are just my three that have the intangibles to leave if they have a great year and see many others on their way to getting paid prime dollar.

Uh, you don't think he could've improved that 40 time with another year of OU S&C? He was already #7 in the country in tackles per game, so he had scouts' attention. Another year of solid media attention would've definitely helped his draft position.
uh no I don't think it would have made much difference. Doubt he runs much lower than a 4.63 next year. He proved he is instinctive and always around the ball, that got him drafted. Being 6'0" tall unless he was going to grow 2-3 inches next year he is probably a 2nd rounder in the '09 draft. With the '09 LB draft looking like it may be better than this one I would say leaving wasn't a bad idea at all. Henderson is a totally different situation than Lofton.

the QB class next year could possibly be the worst ever

it is TERRIBLE, if Boeckman has a good season I would not be suprised to see him go in the 1st round (Mel Kiper was already starting to hype Boeckman as a NFL QB last season)

Hartline has been talkin for awhile like he's definately gonna leave after this yr... why, i dont know.. but he's made some comments like he actually had to consider coming back for this yr..

I think Hartline and Washington are two underclassmen who will definately leave.. Washington has been towing the line with these drug tests.. i think he bails after this season..

Drafting '09: Georgia QB Stafford starts out as top dog

At this time last year, Louisville quarterback Brian Brohm was considered the top draft prospect heading into the 2007 season.

He fell to the second round Saturday, a victim of the over-analysis of the scouting process.

So who's the guy who takes the tear-me-to-shreds throne heading into next season? The choice is a quarterback some NFL scouts have been watching since he was in high school.

Hint: It's not the Heisman Trophy winner.

Contd...

Chris Wells, RB, Ohio State (Jr.): At 6-1, 225 pounds, he has great size. He has also been timed under 4.5 in the 40. A good junior season and he should be gone.

Brian Robiskie, WR, Ohio State: He has good speed and runs disciplined routes. He's the son of Atlanta Falcons assistant Terry Robiskie.

Alex Boone, T, Ohio State: He's another big tackle at 6-8, 320 pounds. Most thought he would enter this year's draft, but he opted to stay in school.

Marcus Freeman, LB, Ohio State: He will be the "other" Buckeyes linebacker with James Laurinaitis on the field, but he shouldn't be. At 6-2, 242 pounds, he's a player.

James Laurinaitis, LB, Ohio State: He surprised a lot of people by returning to school this season. He is a tackling machine with good size (6-2, 245 pounds).

Malcolm Jenkins, CB, Ohio State: At 6-1, 202, he runs a 4.4 40. He excels at playing man coverage.

Just missed: Todd Boekman, QB, Ohio State

Nice to see Freeman getting some National recognition.
