Mine That Bird was not impressive til about the 3/4 pole, then he just said "time to win" and turned on the afterburners. It was fun watching the overhead view of him just weaving through traffic and leaving these million dollar horses in his dust.

Yeah, the 3 guys who thought they were battling for the win had to have been WFT? when he blew past them. Funny thing was that in the 5 or so hours of pregame I had playing in the background while I was doing house repairs, I heard time and time again that it was an advantage on the rail but no one mentioned that the jockey who rode Mine that Bird was the king of the rail.

That is Calvin's trademark. With that said, no one would have put his horse as a favorite. He rode the rail all the way around on Street Sense a few years ago. Truthfully, I was surprised to see that he even got a ride. He really isn't that great of a jock. Good for him though. He just solidified his place in history. Anyone who wins the Derby twice is legit!!!

As for the WTF thing... I'm with you. I bet on Gomez big. when he was coming into the stretch I thought we had it. all of a sudden it all fell apart.

He was totally entertaining. I'd say that was the most memorable Derby I've ever watched. Just came out of nowhere.
