2009 BB HOF: Henderson and Rice

Uh, what?

Typos aside, a lot of guys have been "triple crown candidates" over 2 or 3 years...means they were good players, but not necessarily HOFers. He doesn't rank in the top 50 of HR, RBI, runs, hits, SLG %, total bases, or extra base hits. He is ranked 6th...in GDPs. I stand by what has been said, which is that he was a force for a 3 year period (1977-1979) and doen't rank in the top 50 in baseball in any major statistical category. If he had played in Milwaukee or San Diego, he never would have gotten close to the Hall.

Agreed. If a couple of years of greatness are all it takes then they better put Eric Davis in the hall soon.

2 votes for Jay Bell.

= 2 people who need to have their voting rights revoked. Then again, thats only 2 more than I got and I never even played.

I cannot wait for Henderson's speech...

Ricky is glad that Ricky was put into the HOF because Ricky belong there. Ricky can still play and people only need to call Ricky and Ricky will play

Or something like that

Next year's first-timers...
Roberto Alomar, Kevin Appier, Andy Ashby, Ellis Burks, Andres Galarraga, Pat Hentgen, Mike Jackson, Eric Karros, Ray Lankford, Barry Larkin, Edgar Martinez, Fred McGriff, Shane Reynolds, Robin Ventura, and Todd Zeile.

Alomar will probably get in. He didn't hang around even when his back and legs had gone so people don't remember that he didn't have any range and couldn't run like he did at the end of his career because it was really only one bad year and one mediocre one.

There are only 2 other possibles on that list: McGriff and Larkin. Larkin has the better chance, he was somewhat dominant in the NL during his career although he always seemed to be 3rd banana behind Ripken and Vizquel on a national stage. That shouldn't hurt him here, but he likely won't go in on the first ballot.

McGriff will get in if the "He's a good guy" vote comes through for him and it very well may get him to the 75% threshold. We won't know until next year. But if he isn't anywhere close that'll be that.

I could've sworn Ellis Burks and Kevin Appier had been out of the MLB for much longer than 5 years....
