Let's try something new for BP. For about as long as the site's been up, I've been a fan of the concept of "direct" access to news and information about the team we follow. We've been dependent upon middle men for ages, people who stand in between in an effort to bolster their own position, notoriety, and income almost as much as (or more than) they're there to bring information to the fans. This new addition to the site isn't going to accomplish that, nor is my desire to give middle men no purpose (I'm a big fan of original content), but it is an effort to take a step towards free and open access to relevant events, news, and meetings.

I don't know how practical this is going to be, so consider it a trial run. But if it and the drive go well, I could see doing this on a much more regular basis. Bringing press conferences, player interviews, and other direct media access to BP through its own community, for free (of course), for everyone, without someone playing "expert." Low-impact as well on the players and coaches, as we'll let the Tim Mays, Adam Jardys, Captain Umbrage, and others of those ilk ask the foolish and often insulting questions.

Some caveats. Vince used a small handheld Flip brand video recorder, something Amazon.com gave me to do reviews as part of their Vine program. It's not the highest quality, and as this was sort of a trial run, not all the audio is great. That can be remedied by better physical positioning (something we learn from the process), or through slightly better equipment (something we address through this or a future fundraiser). Access we have, the ability and willingness to bring video to BP we have as well, now it's just a matter of figuring out what makes sense for this site. If this doesn't, the effort cost us nothing as he was going to be at the event anyway.

Like anything else on BP, this is a work in progress, one that we can and will shape together. So if there are amateur video editors out there who like slicing and dicing raw video down into something meaningful, folks who can up the audio when necessary, graphic demons who could do a little BP splash intro, or A/V geeks who can recommend an inexpensive solution superior to the Flip (ideally with directional audio) -- well, speak up. :)

I will be adding to this post as I upload the unedited videos to YouTube. Expect six in total.

The full draft, while over a half hour long, is quite funny at points as some of the players joke around with one another. We've broken it up into four files, each about 9 minutes. If you don't see all four in this post, check back later as some of them are still uploading and processing on Youtube.

The video (in the first part particularly) is quite shaky at parts. A Flip cam is not much bigger than a cellphone, and has no zoom capability. So again, this is something we can address by way of different equipment if you guys decide that you'd like to see more videos like this from press conferences and other media events.

Funny watching the beginning of the Jenkins video, as a corpulent cameraman was either trying to molest Vince, or get better position (hence the shaking and subsequent relocation to a better vantage point).

Did that guy have any nacho stains on his clothes? I knew he wasn't serious about pointing his camera at the Internet broadcast.

Okay, all four are up -- so the entire draft process is represented in this thread now.

We had some other clips. Vernon Gholston talking a bit, more with Tressel before the draft, but the audio wasn't there for either one. This was definitely a "test run" for us. Both to measure the practicality of doing it, and to see how everyone here responds to the possibility of doing this regularly. During the football and basketball seasons, it would probably be at least once a week for the major pressers, at least as Vince is available.

The camera work is his, so if you enjoy some of the fun play as he bounces back and forth covering each side's antics -- drop him some greenies. Sure, he gets a laugh out of human tragedy, but this may be a great new direction in which BP branches out.

Finally, keep the feedback and ideas flowing. Is the Flip cam good enough, with the shaking and the poor (at times) audio? What do we want to see that we don't get elsewhere? Talk it up, and enjoy what's above.

Not sure why part 3 doesn't have a lead-in image like the rest. Hopefully that will correct on its own. Doesn't have an adverse effect on the video, it's all there.

Thaddeus Gibson is gonna be a monster!!! #1 overall pick (among non-seniors) wow. that came out of nowhere.

...anyone notice in part 2 when they open up the center position, the #2 pick was Edwin Moses (at least that is what it sounds like to me) lol

Really enjoyed that, the Flip camera is fine. The important thing is that it captures the spirit and personality of this team. I loved the joking and jabbing back and worth. So now that we know who's playing on each team we can support our homies and watch the fun on Saturday. See ya'll at the game. Go Bucks, Go Gray! :osu::oh:

Had a lead-in image on this end ...

Great idea BTW, I think this might be the very first time that a lot of us got to see behind that curtain as they undertake the Spring Draft.

Very very VERY nice.. would love to see more stuff like this. These type of videos are hard to find. The flip cam was fine, showed me what I needed to see.
