2008 Ohio State Baseball Preview

Go Buckeyes!

  • The first game of the 2008 Ohio State baseball season is just 2 weeks away. Below is the current schedule with links to each opponent's baseball website, their 2007 record, their conference and their mascot. I will break down each team in more depth a day or two before the game or series. There is a small write up on each Big 10 series.
In my opinion, this is a slight upgrade to last year's schedule. The premier game will be at Texas A&M in College Station, Texas. The Aggies are a perennial contender for the CWS. This will be a good indication of where the Buckeyes are and what we can expect of them this season.

Why isn't College Baseball a big thing?

College Baseball suffers from lack of exposure. You can't turn on any tv in the country on a Saturday afternoon and find College Baseball on the big four networks. So many of the best players in the country get drafted and scooped by MLB as high school kids and sent to the minors. So AAA and AA pro ball gets the exposure and attention that should be left for college ball.

Personally, I'll take College Softball over College Baseball or pro baseball. Its a much better sport.

Unfair advantage for southern teams due to the weather that the NCAA does nothing about

Wrong on both counts. It's not unfair, it's just unavoidable. They are trying to level the playing field with start dates, though I don't think it really helps too much. It is what it is.

You can have it. Although, I will say that the girls really enjoy it, and because of that, it has its place.
