2008 NFL Draft (Projections/Mock Drafts/Evaluations/Draft)

Ah, memories...

That was the biggest load of crap. Leinart (only a year earlier) had to sit and feel the cameras eat him alive while he fell like a lead balloon. He didn't have the luxury of hiding in a draft day bunker. Stinkin' ND privilege lasted until the very last amateur career moment...

On another note, it's hard for me to believe that the 49ers, with all of their problems, can afford to take a backup to Frank Gore in the first round.

Gore has been injured every season of his career save for last year, including college. It would be foolish to expect him to be a consistent contributor for them.

Actually, he's only missed three games in his three year career. He is their most valuable player right now (on the offensive side of the ball at least) and to expect him not to contribute would be foolish. While I do understand that RBs have a small shelf-life, that position is hardly a need for them with capable backups already on the team. When Arnaz Battle is your #1 WR, you have work to do elsewhere.

What's really laughable is that we have three DEFENSIVE guys in the TOP 15 on the board, compared to LSU's 2 in the TOP 30 (and after Dorsey, the next one barely makes it at #27).

And yet... LSU consistently gets billed as the "NFL-caliber" defense in college football this year. Can't tell you how many times and in how many places I've seen/heard that. They're good, to be sure. But, it appears that there's strong evidence that we have MORE top-tier NFL talent than they do.

Go figure.

:oh:

The four Buckeyes listed in the first round SUCK!!

They are nothing but slow northern wannabe's who will need to buy tickets to really see any NFL action in 2008.

That being said, I think with one more year of college experience, that they'll all fit nicely into their projected positions in the "2009" draft.

I don't think Gholston projects top ten at this point. If he shows he possesses the athleticism to move to 3-4 OLB, then he could possibly go top ten. However, as of right now, I don't think he's as good a prospect Wimbley was coming out of college, and Wimbley went 12.

Am I alone in thinking Jenkins is going to be the best pro out of the juniors declaring?

I like my Cowboys taking James Hardy in the first round. He will be a good one with Romo throwing him the ball. The Boys need a CB with their other pick, but if Desean Jackson falls to the Browns pick hopefully they take him there and then get Aqib Talib with their own pick or the best available CB if Talib is gone.

Here's how it works: Teams at the top of the draft pick according to their assessment of their greatest need & players/positions of greatest "value" at the pick where they are slotted. Then all of the good teams with competent front offices pick the best player available. While all of that happnes, Brady Quinn goes to the green room and cries for about three hours. Eventually the draft ends, then they all come back next year and pick in roughly the same order because the crappy teams never get better because they bypassed the best available player to get somebody who was overvalued at a position of need.

Yeah, and I hear that Parcells is still amazed/ticked that the Dolphins took Ginn over Brady.
