2008 Linebacker Discussion

Not to sound crass, but is it bad that some guys just don't cut it? JL and MF could have gone pro last year. By coming back, they are delaying certain player's development, most notably, Spittler, Terry, and Homan. I especially hope Terry gets a chance this year, since this is his last season of elligibility, but, at the risk of sounding crass, you earn your spot. If you commit to OSU, you are aware that you are competeing against some of the best talent in college football. If you don't think you can be an All-American, OSU may not be the school for you. I wish the best for every student athlete that chooses to come to OSU, but they have to earn their job. If you want to be the best, you have to compete against the best. Given OSU's reputation in the NFL draft, you can make an NFL roster without being a star at OSU.

All theses predictions on the Linebacking depth chart and it amazes me that for the most Part Tyler Moeller is being left out of the mix. One poster,Best Buckeye, doesn't even have him on his two deep. But yet Moeller was the two deep SLB behind Larry grant last year, and Grant just happens to be the only starting LB lost.

Why doesn't Moeller simply step into the vacated position?

It makes perfect sense considering his speed and the trend towards smaller , quicker Linebackers. He is also the perfect type of LB to battle spread offenses and this will have to be on Jim Tressel's mind as we all know the coach spends considerable time preparing for "The" game.

I don't have any inside information and am wondering where so many of these posters are getting their information.

Cincinatti Moeller;

I don't put much stock in the preview depth chart because at this point in time some changes will occur.
We have an exeptional amount of talent in the linebacking corps and these kids will be fighting tooth and nail for their spots. From what I saw at the spring game Sabino could be giving someone a run for their money. He looked like a terror to me. About a week into the practices we should start to see changes , if any.

I agree.

I was just trying to get an idea of where we stood heading into the fall.

The talented depth we have is going to allow for Terry and or Spitler to play some or fully switch to FB if it helps the team.

I'm having dreams of a Rolle/Sabino/Bell LB corp in a couple of years.

From everything I have read and the fact his number was switched it seems pretty likely he was moved to Safety. Milli's class chart has him at Safety as well.

This is one that I don't think anyone is really clear on but thats the reason for the omission, not an oversight of Moeller.
