2008 Football Rumblings

My guess is that the new clock rules are in response to the widespread use of football offensive trends like the spread and the no-huddle. So many teams now run either the "4-minute drill" the "hurry up" the "no huddle" or some version of the spread that there are just too many plays and possessions in a game, and with TV timeouts after every blown whistle that translates into 5 hour games. Actually, I think there might be less scoring now than more.

when are they going to outlaw the forward pass, its ruined the game...

It almost died early on in the college game, and I think it cleared by only one vote when it was taken...fucking Woodrow Wilson, saving the forward pass and shit...

I love college overtime rules, but I really think they should move the ball to start the possession at the 40. You should have to get a first down to be in solid field goal range.

I think they put the ball close to make sure points will be scored. Putting it at the 40 could prompt a long string of three and outs from both squads (well...in OT I guess it would be 4 and outs in OT..no punting).

I agree with you though.

Wonder if the "new" clock rules will actually mean fewer plays?
Or if the speed-ed up clock will negate that?
And this rule seems like it basically favors the offense, so will we see more scoring?

I have seen a few coaches comment that they expect to be able to run a few more plays per game....which should lead to a bit more scoring.
