2008 Buckeye Football Season

what's the consensus on boone? most predictions i read in the preseason had him nfl-bound, but he's not mentioned here. any reason? despite the block O, i think he is the least expendable (because of depth and also having to replace barton) out of JL, MJ and VG.

Boone is good but I think last year exposed him against speed rushers, and this year he hasn't really been dominating so most just assume he's coming back (as do I).. I think #33 comes back, and I think we have a good shot at Gholston so far as well too. Only one I think is for sure gone is Jenkins, and thats because you dont' run into corners with his speed, size, and most importantly his ability to be physical. There's not a more physical corner in the nation and not to mention one who makes plays like him. For him to come into camp in fall of 05' and make that much of an impression with the talented defense we had that year... thats saying something. James got his playing time due to injury his freshman year and I think 1 more year for James to really put him in that Elite top 5 pick.

laurinaitis already said a few times he's coming back.

While I agree that he's going to come back, you can't take his words today as truth tomorrow. I remember before the 1997 Rose Bowl (1996 season) Orlando Pace said he wanted to come back and try to win the Heisman. He had just been in the running for the Heisman his junior season.

A few weeks after the Rose Bowl, he announced he was leaving for the NFL.

Laurinaitis can't announce now that he's going pro, even if he has already decided. I don't know if it's illegal for him to announce (maybe it ruins his elligibility?), but can you imagine the crap he'd get from so-called "fans" if he let it slip that he was leaving after this year? If/when he gets asked whether he's coming back next year, he has to avoid saying that he's leaving.

True, but from what I saw of Flash today, I think he's a little more versatile than Small. In two years, I can see Pryor at QB, Zoom and Flash in the backfield where we'd split one or both out prior to the snap, with Small out in the slot. All that speed and elusiveness...no way can you scheme for that.

with big play threats at WR and TE, a stud OL and a defense to bail us out if the O isn't dominating.

Yes the next 3-4 years are going to be a lot of fun.

"Big Ten Speed" in 2009

I can really see Lamar used in the exact role Percy Harvin is in at UF. Start him in the slot and motion him into the backfield for 10 plays a game.

It would be nice to have 4.4 speed at every position...

QB - Terelle Pryor (4.4)
Tailback - Beany Wells (Who cares about his forty time)
Tailback/ Slot Receiver - Brandon Saine (4.4)
Slot Receiver - Flash Thomas (4.4)
Receiver - Ray Small (4.4)
Tight End - Jacob Stoneburner (4.46)

Not to get off of the Thomas but no way BeanIE is here in 2009.
qb-pryor
rb-Saine. Torrence
Tailback/Slot- Thomas
Recievers-Washington. Small. Hartline. Torrence. Posey.
Slot-Stonerburner
Plus we got some pretty good ones that are in the 4.5 range but will still contribute. But Thomas sure looked like an explosive runner on saturday.

If Pryor comes, OSU may be fine without a true RB in this class. Herron & Saine have good potential too, but Thomas & Pryor/Henton should be able to carry a good chunk of the workload on the ground.

Those I talked to in SA were really impressed with how Flash had grown physically. His gamebreaking speed & agility was a given, but his added size (since the spring) was a welcome bonus.

I had "flash"es of Steve Slaton and Vince Young in my mind when I saw him taking handoffs from Pryor.

I should qualify that my saying I meant the Steve Slaton of 2005 and 2006.
With a lot more durability, imo.

What you said here says we will be almost totally a spread offense.

What I meant was I thought OSU could go that route if necessary. Re-reading, I wrote off Herron and Saine a bit, not my intention. I merely meant those two (Pryor Flash) could help compensate nicely even if OSU does not have a star RB every year (for instance, after Herron/Saine graduate), like they've been blessed with often under Tressel (Clarett, Pittman, Wells).
