Pretty impressive run for JL. I remember when he went in for Bobby his freshman year I was thinking who the heck is this kid and will he fill in okay.

I remember arguing with a few folks that were ragging on him because they said he was "out of position" on so many plays that game. I guess he turned out to be OK after all...

Amazing run. He'll be missed!

:oh::io:

Yeah, JL's career reminds me much of Hawk. The both of them played in big games when the star LB went down (Hawk in for Wilhelm during the NC, JL in for Carp during scUM and ND). Congrats to JL, thats awesome!

Hawk went in for Cie Grant for a drive or two in the NC, didn't go in for Wilhelm and even if he did it wasn't for anywhere near the amount of time JL has had.

I stand corrected that Hawk did play as Grant's backup and not Wilhelm's, I do remember the announcers talking about Hawk coming in as a frosh, wondering how his playing would effect the defense.

Again, I stand by in saying that JL's career has mimicked Hawks. They both had early playing time as freshman, then turned out to garner trophies and stats as well as earning consecutive spots as All-Americans and Big 10 DPOY honors.

A.J. was getting meaningful snaps as early as the Penn State game in '02.

And was getting plenty of mop-up duty early in the '02 season as we routed both Texas Tech and Kent State. Hawk even had a pick six against the Golden Flashes.

Correct, he even went on to grab another pick later that season.

I'm hoping we see another soph next year break out the way JL and Hawk did. Maybe Homan will garner some accolades in the post-season next year?

AJ and JL have made me realize that I should not be worried about lack of depth at LB. One guy leaves, another guy steps right in and we know what to expect. It's a blessing for us.

Congrats to JL and Malcolm. Quite an honor to be an All-American once, and they've done it two and three times. Impressive.

College football: All-America honors go to Laurinaitis, Jenkins

By Ken Gordon

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

For just the second time in 32 years, the Ohio State football team has a three-time All-American. Linebacker James Laurinaitis and cornerback Malcolm Jenkins were named to the American Football Coaches Association team yesterday.
It marks the third straight year that Laurinaitis has been an All-American. Safety Mike Doss was the last Buckeyes three-timer, named from 2000 to 2002.
"It's an unbelievable blessing to think of being a three-year All-American; I thank God every day for the amazing blessings that have happened in my life," said Laurinaitis, a senior who has 121 tackles, four sacks and two interceptions this season. "When I decided to come back after last season, I knew honors like this would not be a given, but would have to be earned again."

I would have given Ringer, Hunter, and Quizz Rodgers that AA spot above Moreno, but thats just me.

The sophomore TE from Rice, Casey, got ROBBED not getting first team AA. Second in the country in total receptions, higher YPC and more touchdowns than Coffman, and Coffman missed 2 games. He got it on name recognition only.

Can't argue against Bryant or Crabtree, but its hard to believe that a player as talented as Jeremy Maclin isnt on that list somewhere.

I don't buy Levitre over Monroe from UVa, but thats just me.

I would replace Selvie and Johson with Hughes and Reed. Hard to believe that a guy who led the nation in sacks with 14 (double what Johnson had), led the nation in Forced Fumbles with 6, and has 18.5 TFL isn't there.

Eric Berry is a monster.
