Channel 10 in Columbus reported the following 40 times.

Roy Hall 4.35-4.37
Antonio Smith 4.5
Troy Smith 4.6
Todd McShay pisses me off. After the NFL Combine in Indy, he did nothing but chastise Troy for not runinng and being out of shape (yet, Dwayne Jarrett and JaMarcus Russell got nothing from him, even though they didn't even participate in drills). Anyways, he said the banquet circuit got him out of shape and overwight, and then he comes in and runs what everybody thought he would. Troy is the man, McShay most definitely is NOT.

Just a question, just a question... How many QB's in the NFL can run a 4.6 40? Because I don't know. Anyone?

there are probably a handfew but its not that big of a deal. if espn brings up anything about him having a 4.6 40 then im pretty sure we all know they are just making up crap to have any kind of story possible. troy has never been that fast and never been the guy that outruns people to the endzone. hes pretty big for his height, elusive, and a very strong runner but a 40 yard guy he is not.

This just in: Quahog, Rhode Island news anchor Tom Tucker is reporting Patriots All-Everything QB Tom Brady just turned in a 5.2 second 40-yard dash. Consequently, the Patriots have released the 3-time Super Bowl Champion signal caller, due to contract negotiations relating to his in-ability to run 40 yards at a time. Speculation circles around a raw prospect seen at team headquarters, rumored to be named Peter Griffin. No word yet on whether Griffin was seen working out at the NFL's recent annual combine in Indianapolis, but scouts seemed to agree, they'd never heard of him. Trisha Takanawa is standing-by on the scene, and we hope to hear more from her soon.

Most of the scouts believe the track in Columbus is about .05 faster than at the combine. At least thats what most of them have been commenting on. .05 seconds is nothing, its meaningless. A guy running a 4.4 and another at 4.45 is going to reach the line about the same time. The 4.4 just looks better hence Roy Hall's 4.35 looks fantastic but still not much different than 4.0 flat. 4.5 and under is damn fast!

Troy always seemed to outrun the defenders to the goal line when he scored or the sidelines to get out of bounds. Thats all that should really matter regarding his speed. How did he throw? Thats the real question.

NFL scouting/Ohio State

Ginn injury prevents scout workout

Roy Hall turns heads with blazing 40-yard dash; Troy Smith solid

By George M. Thomas

Beacon Journal sportswriter

COLUMBUS - Ted Ginn Jr. strolled through the atrium of the Woody Hayes Athletic Center lugging a scarlet duffel bag just before the start of Ohio State's Pro Day on Saturday afternoon. That would be the most significant workout the projected first-round draft choice would get.
Ginn, who suffered a foot sprain in the BCS National Championship Game after celebrating a touchdown on the opening kickoff, didn't get a chance to display his skills for a group of assembled scouts, coordinators and executives that included Browns General Manager Phil Savage and coach Romeo Crennel.

More on Troy, Antonio, Pittman and he others - no mention of Downing.
Interesting quote from Brownie's
Smith ran two 40s, in 4.65 and 4.71 seconds. That would have placed him second among the 15 quarterbacks who ran at the combine, behind only Jared Zabransky of Boise State.
Smith also posted a 36?-inch vertical jump and a 10-foot, 2-inch broad jump (both best among combine QBs). He weighed in at 222 pounds — three lighter than he was at the combine.
And his throwing drew favorable reviews.
"Troy did what you expected him to do," Cleveland Browns general manager Phil Savage said. "He does have a strong arm, (and) he obviously has been working on his drops. He was impressive, as you expected him to be. He runs pretty smooth; he ran fast enough for a quarterback."
