STR

Rookie
1b Miller/Fryer, 2b Zoller, SS Arp/Toussant, 3B Arp/Macke, C Hula/Fryer, DH Fryer, LF Howell, CF Angle, RF Zizzo

Something to keep in mind is, what is the best defensive line up? OSU had one of the top offenses in the nation and did not win the Big Ten or go to the NCAA,s. Some defensive miscue's cost them both opportunities. Range and arm strength are a must on the left side. The outfield will be speedy, Zizzo may offer some improved offense in right field.

The left side of the infield is the only real question going into next year. Improving our bullpen depth is also a priority.

C Fryer
1B Miller is an excellent defensive 1B
2B Zoeller
SS ???
3b Macke played well at third when Ronnie went down last year
LF Howell
CF Angle
RF a lot of quality OF depth. RF will not be a problem..Zizzo, Shirtzinger, Shuck, Arp IF/OF, ect...
DH Schneider

New recruits will make things even better..i trust some of you local Buckeye fans will keep me up to date on recruiting...i live in Alabama and know little of Ohio HS baseball!

STR...can you tell me anytrhing about Ben Toussant ? I know his name, and thats about it..

2006 recruits:

OF Ryan Dew (Worthington Kilbourne)
INF Cory Kovanda (Worthington Kilbourne)
RHP/3B Jared Strayer (Worthington Kilbourne)
INF Matt Streng (Upper Arlington)
INF Cory Rupert (Mansfield Madison)
RHP Dean Wolosiansky (Green)

They're also looking to get Ben Minard from Olentangy

Kilbourne had a pretty good team, but no team in Ohio has three seniors of OSU caliber.

2005 recruits:

LHP Josh Barrera (Thornville Sheridan)
* RHP Taylor Barnes (Cinti St Xavier)
* LHP/1B Eric Best (Olentangy Liberty)
RHP Jake Hale (Albany Alexander)
* LHP Brad Hays (Toledo Central Catholic)
* OF Zach Hurley (Springboro)
OF/LHP J.B. Shuck (Galion)
* INF Ben Toussant (Upper Arlington)

* redshirted

Cleve, you've been railing about Todd's focus on Central Ohio too much for a while now. I'm beginning to agree with you. This is almost a replay of the basketball situation where the coach "settles" when he doesn't have to.

Anyone have any idea which of these newcomers will provide pitching depth, infield help, and possibly some power next season?

Any idea why Todd isn't recruiting SW Ohio more? A lot of good to great baseball teams down there. The Hamilton and Cincinnati areas are usual hotbeds but we don't seem to pick many guys up from the region. Miamisburg had a very tough pitcher this season but we showed no interest and he signed with Indiana. Hmmm. I know Elder is loaded as well.

Sort of off-topic but...

I know that Miamisburg kid had great numbers, but I wasn't impressed with him at all in the state semifinals. He fell behind 90% of the batters he faced and didn't really have a great breaking ball.

Don't judge too quick

Geesh..Todd must be getting lazy.

That may be just a little leap to judgement;

I umpired a few Kilbourne games and those 3 really stuck out. The problem was that they are totally different players and did not have a lot of of help on their team. Those 3 led Kilbourne to a District title almost single handed and each kid brings something different to the OSU table. One is a scrappy 2nd baseman with speed and a prototype OSU middle infielder. One is a pitcher who won 20 some games in HS and also plays 3rd base and hit about .450. The last ones an outfielder with power and speed who hit about .450.

Plus, as far as recruiting dollars go, I bet they came pretty cheap overall being Columbus kids. I think all 3 are projects but each kid had to lead in their specific area without a lot of help and took their team to a 26-5 record or something. Dew and Strayer got about every post season award you could get and Todd knew he could get them to OSU without a whole lot of begging, regardless that they went to the same high school.

I wouldn't be that surprised to see all 3 of them contribute at the next level, they know how to win and that's what OSU needs on the field.
