That is the best take-out of a field over half a mile or less that I have seen since Sir Ivor was ridden to win at Epsom Downs by Lester Piggott in 1968.
That was something very special, this was even better.

i don't think it was the best take-out so much as the best trip. borel was fortunate enough to find two holes open up immediately before he got there. without just one of the holes opening up, he would have been stuck behind a wall. nonetheless, great race.

Sir Ivor's 1998 Epsom Downs win was epic because the last stretch was all afterburner - pretty much from the middle of the pack (having worked up from the rear earlier).
This race had Borel ride from 19th to 1st - and while it is true that Borel had to get holes to thread through, fact is he had to have the skills to make the most of those holes by exercising his ride's peak speed. He did just that. (And isn't it always horse and jockey, not one or the other?)
We can debate the relative merits of what happened today, but we both agree that this was a great race.

can anyone get me the complete order of finish?

Do you mean the 1 through 20 order?

DRF.com has the finish. so i got in line at beulah today with every intention of betting my ass on Curlin. about half way through the line i started thinking about how the 7 horse was dominating every race at CD today. I flinched and bet the "7 all" exacta. it cost 38 bucks but it paid 101. i'll take it.

for some inexplicable reason i really like this horse. i put 20 on him to win today at 50:1 he's a front runner but he has no guts. he pukes down every stretch. i think this will be his only trip crown race this year. they only get longer from here. i am really looking forward to going to the belmont this year. it will be my first trip crown race. hopefully i don't get wasted and pass out before the race:biggrin:

sure, he made the most of those holes, but fortune was more on his side than anything else. that's the risk of a rail trip. the jockey doesn't control the race as much as the others end up controlling it for him. even gary stevens noted how lucky he was to have not one but two holes open up like that (one right after the other at about the 1/16). it was if the horses were deliberately getting out of the way. it was really quite interesting.

as far as going from all the way in the back to winning the race, this isn't all that uncommon in long races that are also quite fast. giacomo, anyone? actually, giacomo's victory at the derby was interesting because not only did he come from all the way in the back, he also took turns going 5 to 8 wide. heck, the first quarter of this year's race was faster than barbaro's first quarter last year. again, it was a good race, but that was a 1-in-a-1000 trip. i'll be very surprised if he wins the preakness.

the move that street sense made around the 3rd turn was incredible. that was part jockey but more horse. this just isn't a great year for 3 yr olds. i wouldn't be surprised to see a non derby runner win the preakness.
