2007 ACC/Big Ten Challenge (official thread)

Wisc disappointed me tonight, I expected better from them. Big dive coming up in the power rankings thread.

Anytime Duke shoots 50% (10/20) from 3 point range.....good luck lol.

Teams are going to have trouble keeping up with Duke's speed this year. As much as I hate to say it, they're a great team. If they had size (only 1 player over 6'9") the NC would be a lock.

Well if we could pull out this Purdue game we would be 2-3 on the night with Purdue and Indiana winning and Wisky, NW, and Minny losing...

Would make us 2-4 overall...

With PSU and Mich. playing so poorly right now this season, and us having UNC...It looks like it is going to be another year for us on the short end of this thing...

If we could steal one of those two games, and we could knock off UNC we will win this thing, but those are some huge ifs...

But even with that we still have to have Ill win at Maryland which is no easy task...

The lack of hustle, the intercepted passes, the lack of team cohesion, It doesn't matter how good Dook is shooting, I think this is the worst team I have ever seen Bo Rein have.
And oh yeah , that is not the Badger defense on the floor , that is a cheap imitation.

Might say the worst I have ever seen a team of his play, but not the worst team he is have ever had...

Chalk this one up as a fluke type game where one team plays out of their mind and the other plays horribly...Much like our game against ATM...

Not saying that those two teams arent better just the fact that they are not as many points as they won by better...

Well Purdue played tough but their inexperienced shined thru down the stretch and they struggled, and lost...

While most teams improve over a season I really see Big Ten being much better later in the season at the top than they are now...I see 6 very solid top 25 contenders by year end in IU, MSU, tOSU, Wisky, Purdue, and Ill.

Purdue is a very young team with 4 contributing frosh that are already playing pretty well, but will only get better...

Wisky is a pretty experienced team, but their guards are still young in terms of playing time other than Flowers...

It is going to be the bottom 5 teams that could kill the conference in terms of overall depth...I mean NW, Mich, Iowa, Minn, and PSU might struggle to compete in the Mac...

Jamarcus Ellis scored 12 of his 15 points in the second half for the Hoosiers (5-1) in their 21st straight regular-season win in Assembly Hall. It also was the Big Ten's first victory in this year's Big Ten/ACC Challenge.
Georgia Tech (3-3) was led by Lewis Clinch with 18 points. Anthony Morrow and Gani Lawal each scored 17.
Georgia Tech got as close as 68-64 and pulled to five with less than a minute left, but the Hoosiers' late free-throw shooting sealed the victory.

Continued......

I got news for you... Duke IS that much better than Wisconsin is this year... Wisky will be a middle of the pack Big-10 team...

Duke will surprise some people this year... This is the most athletic they've been since the Boozer/Battier/Williams/Dunleavy teams... They don't have a true post player, but mask it well with quickness, athleticism, and solid perimeter play... They'll challenge UNC right until the end for the ACC crown this year...

I hear ya on Dook, but with a good post game they can be beaten...I thought that if Illinois could of controlled the ball on the perimeter, that the game against them would of been a lot closer...

It was obvious that Wisky played one of their worst halves of basketball, but that is to the credit of Dook and Cameron indoor...

Dook is a top 5 team at this point, and can be mentioned in the same breath as UNC, UCLA, Memphis, and Kansas...

I agree for the most part... I think a lot of teams will have trouble controlling the ball on the perimeter against Duke this year though... The backcourt is pretty athletic this year and they are playing very aggressive D...
The one thing you have to remember though is that a team with a strong post game may be able to score on Duke, but will have match-up problems on the other end with Singler and King... Those two will be tough to guard for traditional post players like Hansbrough or others...

And I agree with you...Also Dook has been shooting lights out so far on the season...

But teams could matchup in a zone, which the ACC doesnt see a lot of and could give Dook problems in the tourney...

Yeah but one thing is that Paulus is not necessairly the most athletic guard and teams could exploit him, if they have other solid guards as well...

Going to take a pretty complete team, but Dook does have weak spots and if they don't shoot well they can be exploited...

Mich. State Wins Big Ten/ACC Challenge

By The Associated Press
It's like being the best player on a bad team. Game after game, you do your job but the rest of the team just doesn't contribute enough to get a win.
That's Michigan State in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge.

College basketball roundup: Michigan State throttles N.C. State

Thursday, November 29, 2007 3:18 AM

Associated Press

No. 10 Michigan State 81, No. 24 North Carolina State 58 -- Michigan State got its latest win just the way coach Tom Izzo likes: tough defense and good execution on offense.
The Spartans rolled past North Carolina State last night in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge in East Lansing, Mich.
Michigan State (5-1) committed only 10 turnovers and hassled N.C. State (4-2) into shooting 35 percent from the field.

Maryland 69, Illinois 61 -- Eric Hayes scored a career-high 18 points, including four free throws in the final 24 seconds, and Maryland (5-2) held on to beat Illinois (4-2) in College Park, Md.
Calvin Brock scored 13 points to lead the Fighting Illini, who shot 33 percent from the floor and went 9 of 29 from three-point range.

Boston College 77, Michigan 64 -- Tyrese Rice scored 28 points to help Boston College (5-0) beat Michigan (3-4) in Ann Arbor, Mich.
Michigan trailed 54-52 midway through the second half after DeShawn Sims' dunk, but Boston College answered with 12 straight points during a two-minute stretch. The Wolverines never got no closer than seven.

Penn State 66, Virginia Tech 61 -- Mike Walker scored 17 points and Talor Battle hit a key bucket down the stretch to help Penn State (3-3) hold off Virginia Tech (2-3) in State College, Pa.
