I don't want to see a terrible tradition emerge, like Michigan's #1 Jersey tradition. I don't know what the players have to do to get a specific jersey number, but I don't want to see a coach deny a player a number simply because "he's not good enough to follow a specific tradition."

Could it be that you just hate the Michigan #1 jersey? :wink2:

Greene, Gordon, Galloway, Germaine, Gamble, and Ginn is hardly a "terrible tradition." :wink2:

I guess I misunderstood your original post:

Dryden said:
The #7 may never go out of style, but it shouldn't be going to Henton either. Henton and Gant need to swap, so that Gant can carry on the tradition of #7 once Ginn is gone.

I didn't realize that you were going through all the guys whose names start with G and who wore #7. I thought that you meant that Henton wasn't good enough to wear #7, and that Gant will be good enough. You want to see guys continue that G&7 tradition. (And I'm sure you wouldn't mind if they all kicked ass, eh?)

I'd just hate to see a player want to do well mainly so that he can earn a #7 jersey or a #1 jersey or whatever. He should want to do well so that he helps his team win games. That's why I think the Michigan #1 tradition is terrible.

The only rule with numbers is that you can't have two on the field simultaneously. Henton is obviously a redshirt and Chekwa will probably redshirt as well. It does mean no Coleman and Small on special teams together...at least this year.

Not necessarily...Coleman could play on coverage teams and Small on return teams. In fact, I bet that's what will happen.

One thing that stands out a little bit is the number of out of state players on roster.

NJ - 2
FL - 4
GA - 5
MI - 2
VA - 1
PA - 6
KY - 1
IN - 2
MO - 1
CA - 4
MN - 1
SC - 1
NY - 1
MD - 1
LA - 1
MA - 1
S. Africa - 1

I think this helps out with out of state recruiting down the line. For example, you have Blankenship committing which gives you 7 in PA. That's pretty solid. I doubt that we ever had that many from PA before.

great job. Never would have thought PA and GA THE TOP 2. lol
