2006 Indoor Track & Football

NCAA Championships, Day 1

Ohio State had three athletes perform on the first day of the NCAA Indoor Championships but both placed in their respective events.

In the Men's 5000m Run senior Brian Olinger finished 7th in a time of 14:00:65. The winner ran a slow 13:49... sounds like it was a tactical race.

In the Women's High Jump junior Jessica Stringer finished 5th with a performance of 1.83m (6'). The top 4 jumpers all cleared 1.86m (6'1.25"). Even if Jessica would have cleared 1.86 she still would have finished 5th because of missed attempts.

In the Women's Weight Throw senior Keturah Lofton finished 8th with a throw of 20.20m (66' 3.25").

The rest of the Day 1 results can be found on the NCAA's Championship website.

Hopefully OSU's two remaining athletes can place tomorrow and make it 5 for 5 to place at the national meet (top 8 place for team scoring and All-American status).

Jatsek placed ninth in the men's weight throw and Zylinski took sixth in the women's shot put at the University of Arkansas' Randall Tyson Complex. The throws duo joined fellow thrower Keturah Lofton, distance runner Brian Olinger and high jumper Jessica Stringer as 2006 All-Americans. Lofton, Olinger and Stringer all turned in All-American performances Friday. In team scoring, the OSU women finished the event with eight team points, while the men scored two.
A product of Trinity High School in Walton Hills, Ohio, Jatsek continues Ohio State's recent national success in the weight, attaining the third men's All-America honor in the event in the last four seasons. Jatsek finished ninth Saturday with a throw of 69 feet, 1 1/2 inches on his second attempt of the competition.
In the women's throws, Zylinski made her debut at the national meet in the shot put event. The native of Elburn, Ill., used her final throw of the night to post a career-best heave of 54-6 1/2 and claim sixth place. Zylinski was the top sophomore finisher in the event.

The Buckeyes are off next week before starting the 2006 outdoor season March 25-26. Ohio State will split squads, sending some student-athletes to Stanford, while others will compete in Florida. <!-- STORY AD BEGINS HERE -->
