2006 Buckeyes Forecast, Recruiting, and The Game (Merged)

I think Antonio Pittman is better than what you have written down for him. He has decent YAC because he has one nasty stiff-arm that always throws the first guy off him. He averages over 5 yards a carry. For the season so far he averages just over a 100 yards/game I think.

if nothing else.... Pittman was much much better compare to his Fr year. I think he's a solid RB and will be even better next year.

QBs... if we look at arm alone I give the edge to Henne. I'm assuming that by the time he reaches Columbus he will have developed some touch to go along with his ability to throw the deep ball. Smith remains a puzzle to me. One game he looks mediocre (Penn State, 1st half Illinois, Iowa, Michigan State) and the next he looks like the best QB in the Big 10 (2nd half Illinois, Minnesota, Michigan) But I love the fact that, unlike Henne, he can also beat you with his feet. Let's call it even.

Yea that little technique of his, throwing it up high and letting Braylon Edwards go get it. For some reason didn't work this year. I wonder why?

Pittman still has a lot to prove to me. It seems to me that he likes to dance instead of just hitting the hole, he doesn't seem to get much YAC. Mo Wells didn't impress either and Haw seems stuck in the dog house. I give Hart the nod and hope that C. Wells tips the scales back OSU's way.
I really don't know what season you watched. Pittman broke tons of tackles, and many were surprised (including myself) b/c he does not seem to have the frame to do so. He blasted thru Nande (?), the freak from Miami. He broke a handful of tackles against UM. He owned Illinois tackler on his way to a TD.

Just b/c he is not maurice clarett doesn't mean he doesn't break tackles.

Why do you give hart the nod? He's been shut down both of the last two years against OSU. I think he's a fine back, but I don't understand your rationale.

I may be a bit to harsh on Pittman... he isn't MoC... thank God and Dammit. I just rewatched most of the Illinois game and all of the Michigan game and all I'm willing to say is that Pittman was adequate in both.

Take Hart's freshman stats, where he was healthy all year, and put them up against Pittman's, add his ability to catch the ball and I give him the edge. He has been stopped by our D two years in a row, yeah, but look at that D. They embarrassed a lot of good backs for two years running, especially when the Buckeye offense gave them any kind of help. I sure don't think that putting Pittman in the Michigan backfield in either game would have changed the outcome, but I think if Hart had been in ours we'd have been better.

Like I said, I give Hart the edge. To me that means that they are comparable, but I believe Hart's better. As for the line up of teams you put out, Hart had 100 yd games against the likes of those teams also. Put Hart on the last two Buckeye teams and I think it improves thier record. Put Pittman on the last two Michigan teams and I think their record gets worse. Nothing scientific, just a gut reaction.

I quit reading once I saw those gems. You probably could've made a more objective post had you actually watched some of the games. Here's a couple of clips of Pittman "dancing" around defenders :roll1: :

Pittman 16-yard TD vs. Illinois

Pittman 14-yard run vs. Iowa

As for picking Hart over Pittman, let's look how they played in The Game:

Pittman: 23-89 (3.7), game-winning TD
Hart: 9-15 (1.7), longest run was 4 yards

Maybe I'll go back up and read what other gems you have...

Exactly mili, and there are dozens of other plays like that too that back up your point. If anything, Pittman's fault is that he occasionally gets upfield too quickly, not letting his blocks set up (he has improved a lot in this area).

what is this "gut reaction" based on? Hart couldn't even stay healthy this year, so I'm not sure how useful he would have been.

The more games Henne plays the worse he looks. I give Smith the edge just because of the last two big games. Maybe this off year Smith the coaching staff and receivers can work together..without the off-field uncertainty. I expect the OL to be ok next year Sims and Mangold are gone, but Datish, Downing,Barton,Boone, and Rehring are back ..so we only need one new OL depending on where they play, if that. Plus Pitman is improving and I don't know if Hart can take the pounding in the Big 10 without being banged up. If C.Wells can do any of the short yardage work Pitman will only be fresher at the end of games and at the end of the year. Oh by the way Carr is owned by JT.

My .02

QB - slight edge to Smith due to runing ability and newfound love for studying game film.

Rb - even, unless C Wells tips the scales. There is huge potential for this to happen.

WR - both teams will be pretty stacked. Look for Dukes to replace Holmes and make some spectacular plays (and make some mistakes, too). Even

O-line - scUM loses at least 2 starters, we lose two 3+ year starters. Look for either Cordle to take over at C or for Datish to move over, making room for Boone at LT, and Rehring at LG. Running left, anyone? scUm always has good O-linemen, so I am saying even for now, but more potential on Osu's side.

K - Pretorious has a much stronger leg than Rivas. Remains to be seen how consistently accurate he will be. But I'm looking forward to watching him next year. We will ALWAYS have a better punting game than almost everybody we play, and scUM has shown a propensity to almost always be sorse than their competition, so I'm thinking comfotable edge in the kicking game.

LB - Even after we lose all 3 starters, scUM only has 1 LB who would have a chance at starting for the Buckeyes next year (Harris). Between Freeman and D'Animal, I don't see hardly any drop off at those 2 positions, if any. Will it be Kerr, Laurinaitis, or whoever to replace Hawk? A dropoff no matter who, but that still doesn't mean a disadvantage to scUM. Edge still to tOSU.

D-Line - They lose Watson, and I assume #56 is coming back, but we are deeper and more athletic, especially at Tackle. Edge to tOSU.

DB - Too soon to tell, depending on what Whitner and Youboty do. If they return, we are talking Nat's Champ contenders for sure. If they leave, we have plenty of talent to plug in there, but not much experience. scUM showed marked improvement at DB this year, but if DW and AY return, edge to tOSU. If not, our young talented guys will have an entire regular season under them by the time we play scUM, so who knows?

The Game is at the 'Shoe - and there may be NC implications involved, especially for us - we won't lose to them in the 'Shoe.
