2006 BP Awards: The Boston-Carter (Best Receiver)

He's got a shot at schooling all three finalists... only one victim remaining.

Do they watch film down there in the South, or do they just rely on their overwhelming athletic superiority?

If they watch film, I cannot imagine that they will try to cover TGII man-to-man, even with their own Finalist. You're certainly right about what happened to the other two.

I was talking about covering Ginn, and did you know that Tommy Z was a boxer??

I realize...the joke was that for most of the time there wouldn't have been anyone in the photo with Santonio last year...just Tommy Z when he chased Santonio down. That is in reference to your comment about the ol' ND defensive scheme. See how it's less funny if I have to explain it...

Yes, but in the end, our interaction as a whole may be viewed as more humorous than it's individual parts, so it that sense it may be more funny that you had to explain it.

Well, I am one who isn't all that impressed with Dillard or Meachem, so if I get schooled for that, so be it. I was never all that impressed with any of the Wyoming receivers from the Air Tiller days, and I was even less impressed with Troy Edwards. It's not just the level of competition, it's whether I think they can get open or get past the bigger, better DBs that are out there. Maybe Dillard is that much better than most of the other small school guys that put up big numbers, but I just didn't see it when I watched him a time or two. Looking at it another way, how many yards and TDs could Calvin Johnson have had if he played at Rice this year? I think Johnson was the best receiver, and that's how I voted.

I agree about Ginn, I actually had Gonzo on my ballot, but not Ginn.

That part I don't dispute...making a case for Johnson is very easy. And when he had the national media momentum he had coming into this year, if was his award to lose. And like you I had Gonzo above Ginn. My only argument is that there aren't seven receivers who put up better numbers or meant more to their team than Dillard.

I can agree with that as well. Solid point.

I had Marcus Monk of Arkansas on my ballot, and I probably could justify him number one (I voted for Meachem). Surprised that no one else put Monk on their ballot. He made all kinds of big plays all year long for Arkansas, is 6'5", great hands, and most importantly, he made all of those plays with a sorry passing attack.

I have no problem with Ginn being high in the voting. He is a game-changer, and he probably causes the defense to focus on him more than any other receiver in the country. Also, he gets better and better at the intermediate routes as the year goes on.
