Illini at crossroads with eyes wide open

For a team with a 12-3 record, Illinois remains hard to get a handle on as it begins Big Ten play tonight at Michigan. That's partly the product of a ho-hum nonconference schedule. Against its top four opponents, Illinois was a troubling 1-3, including a lackluster 65-59 loss Friday at Xavier.

Can't believe that Illinois lost to Michigan. But we still have to be prepared when we go to champaign b/c that is a tough place to play.

I think the team to watch out for in the big ten that could finish as high as #3 is PSU. They are a pretty good team and put the smack down on NWestern a team that usually controls the clock and doesnt get blown out. I thought that it would be Purdue and MSU fighiting for that spot but Purdue got beat by Minnesota last nite at home and I am still not sure what to think of MSU. They are a pretty solid team.

The Badgers (15-1, 1-0) recovered from a slow start to take a 17-point lead at halftime, then held Minnesota (7-9, 1-1) scoreless for the first 6 1 /2 minutes of the second half.

One of the more perplexing questions during coach Tommy Amaker?s tenure at Michigan has been why he hasn?t gotten more out of players seemingly more talented than they play. In his sixth season, he might have stumbled on an answer. The bench is a powerful source of motivation when the players on it can do the job as well as the starters.

And there is a pretty significant gap between UW/OSU and IU. The rest are just awful.
