2005-2006 Men's Basketball Schedule

Ashley, Findlay, Chicago State, Butler, Norfolk State, Belmont, Gardner Webb, Florida A&M? Is that a joke?

Ashland and Findlay are exhibition games.

I know the nonconference doesn't seem that strong but OSU does play Butler, LSU, at St. Joes, at Iowa State, Virginia Tech.

Its widely accepted that the power conferences will play at least 3-4 "cupcakes" a year.....

I don't like this schedule for OSU at all. They will basically be untested going into the post season. They will destroy those putz teams, and get beat by the good ones. It's like KState. Not good at all. I hope for the next year they schedule some better teams if they want to capitalize on the One and Dones.

Butler, LSU, at St. Joes, at Iowa State, Virginia Tech will test Ohio State in my opinion. Just remember that the regular season is basically there for you to get ready for the NCAA tournament, I think after Ohio State goes through the Big Ten schedule, they will be more than ready. You want to play quality opponents in your non-conference schedule but you want to make sure you give yourself the best chance to get into the tournament also.

I think they will be fine.

Maybe I've been away from a college basketball schedule for too long while keying in on this weekend. I know Syracuse plays patsies for the preseason but they make up for it in the Big East schedule. Time will tell.

I am disappointed as well. I was hoping for much, much more. Even among the 'rummies' you can sometimes get decent competition.

Checking versus last years RPI the non-conf is as follows:

LSU -25
St Jo - 56
Iowa St - 63
Va Tech - 111
Gardner Webb - 156
Tenn St - 161
Belmont - 204
Florida A&M - 214
Butler - 241
Chicago St - 254
Nofrolk St - 270

This is much weaker than even last season and then we played our toughest games (LSU and Texas Tech) on the road.

Just remember that the regular season is basically there for you to get ready for the NCAA tournament

What a crime that this is close to the truth. A warning for the proponents of a football playoff.

Why not throw a MAC school in there? I understand not having a schedule that goes: Duke, Kentucky, Louisville, North Carolina, or something equally insane, but come on -- if you're going to put teams in there that are 200 and up, you can toss in an Ohio, Miami, Toledo, etc. I'd much rather go down to the Schott and see the Bobcats or Rockets than a team who I've literally never heard of (Belmont).

I guess the schedule thing goes both ways, though. You have to find a school willing to come play you. Major conference bottom-feeders are probably looking for easy early wins before they get pounded in conference, so they're not about to come to OSU. Even the MAC schools are looking for their easy early wins, though I'd think that a shot at OSU would be more than tempting.

Edit: And when are we going to schedule X and Cincy? Come on, Thad! Let's make it crystal clear who the #1 program in the state is! :tongue2:

This team isn't that great yet (they have the potential to be very good). I think they can make some noise in the tourney, but we will need time to develop chemistry and consistency in our lineups, with new guys like Mayes and Lewis pushing for immediate PT with 5 returning starters.

Michigan State, Illinois, Indiana are not going to be easy games by any means.

Maybe it would be a fun idea for someone on here who knows a shit ton about basketball to go throw the scheduel game by game and talk about our chances in each game to see what kind of season were looking at. I was trying to do it but all i could really go off of was the teams name we were playing against and saying we should win. Maybe we can start getting as much hype around the basketball team as we do with the football team. I wouldnt mind seeing us become one of the few schools out there that is dominate in both basketball and football, and our baseball team is one of the best in the north too. :)

I know for a fact that a lot of those MAC schools are chomping at the bit to get to play our basketball Bucks. Hell, Ohio's coach came out and challenged Thad Matta to schedule them this year, because they're THAT confident that they would beat us! Sounds like Cincy all over again.

There were quite a few MAC teams in the upper echelon (120) of the RPI at the end of last season too (Buffalo, OU, Akron, Miami, Toledo, Kent State, one of the directional scUM's). I'm with Brutus. Throw a MAC school or 2 in every year, even if they're low on the RPI. I'd much rather play a crappy Eastern Michigan team than a "Coaches vs. Cancer All-Stars" team anyways. If we're gonna prepare ourselves for the Big Ten, we might as well use resources that are close to us. Plus, I'd love to put Ohio back in their place =). I don't fear Jeremy Fears!!
