DE - Fraser
DT - Pitcock
DT - Green
DE - Patterson
The rotation here will see Kudla, Frost, Richardson, and Maupin (ranked by amount) getting PT, with Patterson sliding inside to acommodate the other DEs at times.

WLB - Hawk
MLB - Schlegel
SLB - Carpenter
I see D'Andrea, Freeman, and Kerr rotating in here, in that order. Freeman more than Kerr, b/c I think he'll the best suited of the three to spell Hawk at WLB.

CB - Fox
S - Salley
S - Whitner
CB - E.J. Underwood
At Safety, Everett & Mitchell will rotate in early and often. I wouldn't be surprised to see some of Sirjo Welch either. At CB, I expect to see Youboty on the field often. I think Ginn will see the field too, but I have no idea to what extent. He has the talent to start right away, but there are other good players there that might keep him off the field. I expect Fox to come off the field less than anyone else on defense.

You once stated that he was probably playing out of position, and because of that he should be given a lot of credit for doing such a fine job at corner.
I remember that well.

I actually meant this thread to be your personal starting defense. Not so much who you think will start and where they'll start.
If you want to take it as what you believe WILL be the starting defense, that's fine with me.

What staff and where did they make these comments concerning D'Andrea?

If I said "out of position", it was meant that he was in a position where originally wasn't when he first came to Ohio State. It was not meant to infer that he was in a position where he didn't belong. I also understand the gist of the thread, but it still boggles my mind that some people insist on moving Fox to safety (just like they did before last season, and look where Fox ended up playing) and D'Andrea to DE. Everyone in the frickin' world is anointing Schlegel as All-Galaxy MLB before he even plays a down for us. Many of those folks will point to statement made by some of the current players that Schegel has looked great. But keep in mind the statements made by Wilhelm ("If his football mind catches up with his body, watch out") and the LB coach ("He's had the best spring of any linebacker") last year. He played only half the time because of being behind a senior (and son of a former Buckeye) and being injured. Schlegel may indeed win the starting job at MLB, but if he does D'Andrea will be his backup. Kerr will be on the outside...he is not better than D'Andrea in the middle.

As for my starting defense (where I have two names, it's still a toss-up until practices):

DE Fraser
DT Pitcock
DT Green
DE Patterson/Kudla

SAM Carpenter
MIKE Schlegel/D'Andrea
WILL Hawk

CB Fox
S Salley
S Whitner
CB Underwood/Everett

Ginn will get some time at corner and I think may be our main return specialist.

I'm happy with Fox anywhere. I'm not one of his critics at corner. I could see him being an All American this year at corner. I still think that he is a natural safety and I'd bet you $10 that he'll end up there in the NFL.

Isn't Kerr about 6'? That's getting smallish for an outside guy

"Kerr is going to be the starter or backup to schlegal so what do you want D'Andrea to do, keep the bench from flying up in air?"

You really need to put the crack pipe down. How do you arrive at the hallucinatory conclusion that Kerr is better than D'Andrea at MLB?

We will see.

D'Andrea will be the odd man out, because of "his football mind". You know they will not move him to OLB so what are the other options?

Even last year when he was in, after a full spring and fall, he looked confused at times, especially against the pass, and would take horrible pursuit angles.

No one quetions the athletic tallent, just the ability to comprehend what he sees. If you make him an edge rusher, all of that mental stuff goes out the window, and he can do what comes natural with all that athletic ability

True, but those instances were far fewer than his frosh year, and he had far less PT in his frosh year than he did last year. I also remember Mike blowing up a couple screens and causing a few hurried passes. Schlegel may end up being the starter, but to me there's no doubt that D'Andrea will be the #2 MLB (at worst), while Kerr will be a backup OLB, most likely behind Carpenter as Matthews was Hawk's backup at WLB last year. My two-deep LB setup is:

WLB: Hawk/Matthews
MLB: D'Andrea/Schlegel (toss-up)
SLB: Carpenter/Kerr

Everett is a safety, not a corner.
He did play some dime back last year though, but you're right, it is a stretch, especially w/ the talent already at CB.

You know they will not move him to OLB
I wouldn't be surprised to see D'Andrea slide over to SLB to give Carpenter a breather every once in a while. I think he'll be the first sub at SAM and MIKE, thus allowing him to see the field as much as possible. MIKE will remain his primary position though.

yobouty is getting sold short as a starting corner and....worst case....a nickel....

dont hand the corner spot to ej just yet......

remember....ay enrolled early last year and this will be his second spring....thats a huge jump over ginn....

I agree about Youboty, I like him a lot but after seeing EJ at practice last summer I was really impressed with him. As long as he displays better ball skills I think he'll be a better than average corner for us. I wouldn't be shocked if Youboty played a lot this year and I wouldn't be surprised at all if Ginn starts a game or two towards the end of the year. Wasn't too long ago that we had to move a wide receiver over to defense because we were thin at corner. It's kinda nice to be able to able to discuss all the current possibilities at the position.

Defense

I know we lost some key defensive guys on defensive including 3/4 of the all-important D-line and a lot of people have been talking about how it's going to be tough for the defense this year but i dont see that happening. We're loaded in the secondary and at LB. Plus some good new talent on the D-line such as Kudla and Pitcock and even D'andrea if they convert him to a DE. I don't think we'll be as good as last year but our defense will definately be a force to reckon with once again in the Big Ten
