loved the way Zed shows his youngness. An 18 year old is having fun playing a game. Does some great things, and is very advanced for a freshman. Has passed Diallo on the depth chart, and is the first big in the game. Noble effort by Liddel to come back from mono, he showed more stamina that is usual on his recovery path. Eugene, what can I say. Don't care for his 'do', but like him fearlessly putting up threes - and knocking them down. Good grit by everyone. Duane just isn't 'on', and/or the opponent knows he's the number one shooting threat, and give him a bit more attention. Sueling did some nice things on O, and wasn't afraid to mix it up under the boards. Towns got some action, very little, and very ineffective. Hopefully he gets some more playing time to knock off the rust. Maybe hard now that tOSU is into league. Continue to be impressed by Coach, he gets in the refs face enough that they might second guess a call or two, but not like Bobby Knight's agressiveness. Go Bucks! Oh, yeah. Thought tOSU was undersized against UCLA, much like the one against Purdue, but maybe the UCLA bigs weren't as talented as Pur-don't.

I am trying to understand your bigger viewpoint here. Holtmann's guys aren't panning out as in... too many transfers? Or, you expect most of the recruits to be more than role players? That doesn't happen at very many schools, even a lot of the top teams are usually mostly solid role players built around 2-3 dynamic guys. Similarly, transfers are the norm now in college basketball.

Key and Brown have been good for true frosh and Holtmann has guys coming in the next two classes that have Liddell-esque potential in terms of their talent. Meechie is a dude and already getting adjusted, Malaki is our top rated recruit since Carton, Gayle is an athletic 3-level scorer and two-way player in the T100, Thornton is ranked in that same T30 level as Carton and Malaki. We need some help in the frontcourt, we need a couple guys to live up to their rankings, and we need to hold onto the guys who can make an impact. But most schools around the country could say something very similar. You even have teams with plenty of NBA talent who are struggling mightily (see UK).

We all want OSU to be better on average than middle of the B1G and Round of 32. That's not bad but also probably not quite as good as we could/should be, especially if we are gonna pay our head coach millions of dollars a year. I feel like we are a little luck and an Efton Reid or Joe Hurlburt away from turning that corner into getting the ball rolling towards being a more consistently T15-ish sort of program again.

I don't see how they can be more than a middle of the road B1G team when he doesn't want to have a center bigger than 6'8 surrounded by a bunch of bad shooters.

Most of the guys on this forum seem to be content to say we should just be a middle of the road B1G team and the Thad years aren't coming back. I say there is no reason why Ohio State shouldn't be a top Big Ten team every year. We will pay more than most schools and Ohio is a good recruiting ground. I'm tired of the 6'8 small centers and bad shooting. We have a bunch of players who are scappy but have no skill.

I'm hopeful that Key and Brown along with Malaki are going to turn things around but I'm also tired of people thinking Holtmann is doing an unbelievable job when he has thrived off Thad's players and his players haven't been good

But you'd have to be an actual fan of the basketball team to know something like that because you have been following and you know where the program is actually unlike some of these fair weather complainers

This is a good, not great, Buckeye team. But I love watching them because of their chemistry and effort. A huge improvement over the last few Matta years when the players looked like they couldn't stand one another.

Loved Thad, but it was definitely time for him to wrap things up. And who would we trade Holtmann for? Honestly can't think of another coach I'd prefer at this moment (well, Izzo ain't coming, so ...).
