#2 Ohio State 64, Penn State 62 (Final)

I know it's frustrating but we are still winning. Look at Florida struggling against Alabama, UCLA lost to WV and Carolina has 3 losses in league. Our only losses are to #1 on the road, #3 on the road and #4 on the road. This team may let games get close but we are winning. Our losses look a lot better than anyone elses in the country exept for maybe Florida. But if Florida losses tonight, it could get close. We are a young team and you couldn't hope for the season to go any better thus far than it has. Stay calm and enjoy the ride. Enjoy watching them impove every game. I'll get off my soap box now. My apologies if it seemed like I was preaching.

No offense. I appreciate your optimism, but I'm still pissed.

Losing to an absolutely pathetic PSU team, while blowing a 21 point lead, would have been much worse than UF losing to a very solid Alabama team. Carolina plays in a MUCH tougher conference than we do, so saying that they have 3 conference losses is little consolation.

I disagree. Every team has letdowns, but this is twice this season that we've done this. Against MSU, we were up 20 at the half and we won by 2. Against PSU, we were up 21 at the half and we won by 2. Both times, the opponent had the ball as time expired and could have won the game with a three pointer. If Matta doesn't teach the team how to close, we'll be lucky to survive the first weekend of the tournament.
Yeah, two times out of 26 games... it's a real trend we have here.... :shake:

I agree with the point that this team needs to learn that a 20 point lead doesn't mean you can just coast, but I don't think we have some sort of systematic problem to be worried about here.

Shit happens... teams make runs. PSU was at home, anyway. MSU did it on OSU's floor.

way to scare the shit out of me

gonna suck watching them do this before the sweet 16:(

If we play like we did in the second half at any point, we won't make the sweet sixteen.

Settle down fellas... lets at least play a game in the B10 tourney (to say nothing of the 4 reg. season games left) before we worry about losing in the sweet 16 or before.

What frustrated me was it seemed Lewis/Harris (etc) would get the ball on the wings, and often kick it right back out rather than try to feed Oden (when he wasn't doubled).

UNC also lost to 9-loss Gonzaga. Wisky lost to Missouri State. A&M got swept by Texas Tech. Pitt lost ugly at home to Louisville. UCLA lost to Stanford.

That was exactly his gloomy point.

My mistake, but either way I expect us to bounce back and hopefully win all of our games leading up to the tourney, which would be a huge confidence booster for the team. I just hope when we build a big lead at halftime our guys learn that there's still 20 minutes more to play.

I dont understand Matta's substitutions most of the time. He seems to take out the guy whose doing the most hustling or starting to get the hot hand, yet he leaves Lewis in the game after watching him launch for 5 minutes when we should have been putting them away. I dont know. Cook was finally hot in the first half and sat way too much in the second. When we had Oden and Hunter in the game at the same time, PSU had no chance whatsoever! We did win. I will sleep tonight. Tomorrow I'll come back and respond with a more level head maybe.

I really don't have a chance at my new job to spend much time on BP, but earlier I did have a few minutes and saw that we were up 40-19 at the half and made the snide comment that PSU outscored us 5-4 in the last 3:20 in the first half. Little did I expect that my comment would prove to be as prophetic as it turned out.

How in the fuck can the #2 team in the country let a bad--not just "not good", but truly "bad"--team that was fucking 1-9 in the conference back into the game from a 40-19 halftime deficit. Sorry Thad Matta lovers, but this is not acceptable and this is not the first time we've let a bad/mediocre opponent literally come back from the dead to almost beat us. Unless shit changes real fast, this team will let some 18-14 team in the NCAAs upset us.

I just cannot see how this is supposedly the second-best college basketball team in the entire country...

I don't think it is. There is something to be said about winning all these close games though. Especially after watching A&M and NC both lose in the last minute last night.
