Two Buckeyes Selected in Major League Baseball Draft
Senior pitchers Mike Madsen, Trent Luyster selected on final day

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Ohio State senior right-handed pitcher Mike Madsen and senior left-handed pitcher Trent Luyster were the only two Buckeyes selected during Major League Baseball's First-Year Player Draft Tuesday and Wednesday, June 7-8.
Madsen (Canfield, Ohio/Notre Dame Cathedral Latin) was selected in the 21st round by the Oakland Athletics as the 21st player of the round and the 641st player taken in the draft, which began Tuesday at 1 p.m. Madsen finished the season with a 7-3 record and a 3.99 ERA. He struck out 52 batters in 76.2 innings and made 15 appearances with 13 starts while pitching four complete games. He finished his career with a 24-9 record and two saves while making 35 starts in 61 appearances. He struck out 171 batters in 245.1 innings and pitched seven complete games while combining for six shutouts.
Luyster (Flushing, Ohio/Harrison Central) was selected in the 30th round by the Toronto Blue Jays as the sixth player taken in the round and the 896th player overall. Luyster was drafted in the 39th round by the Chicago Cubs in the 2004 draft, but returned to Ohio State for his senior campaign. He finished his career with a 14-10 record and 4.49 ERA after making 29 starts in 61 career appearances. He struck out 149 batters in 228.2 innings and recorded four saves. He pitched four complete games and combined for six shutouts.
Ohio State finished 40-20 overall after making the school's 17th appearance in the NCAA tournament after winning the third Big Ten tournament championship in the last four years and the seventh of the program's history.
