'18 OH SF Jerome Hunter (Indiana signed, transfer to Xavier)

Yeah, I like what I see of Hunter. Haven't seen Bazley but he sounds like an "upside" recruit, don't think I would prioritize him over Hunter.

I would have him higher than #7 if it was my list of targets for CH. I would be very happy if Chris can add Hunter. I think he is a very good college prospect, a lot of talent to work with, shows some skills that I can see growing.

Yeah, he keeps going up the charts...used to be ranked around the nineties nationally (or #125 by 247), the newest evaluation for Scout has him up to 61, ESPN has 44, and Rivals lists him at 79. I'm not going to act like Bazley doesn't have obvious skills, but Hunter looks like he can match Bazley in a lot of ways. The buzz on his recent play really seems to be focused on his three-ball. He shoots (and hits) a lot of them.

Not a good look for Buckeye basketball, all things considered.

I'm not off the Holtmann bandwagon yet, but initial results aren't exactly explosively good.

Just out of curiosity, what exactly would you have considered good for initial results?

Have a bunch of commitments already? He has been on the job for less than a month. Hunter has been recruited by the coaching staff at Michigan for his whole high school career. It will be hard to simply change that instantly. Hunter hasn't committed yet either.

I hope Buckeye fans realize this isn't going to be a quick process and try not to start judging things until he has his first class in '18 signed and delivered.

Right. And the '18 class is only 1 part of the puzzle. Grad transfers, JC, & regular transfers are certainly going to be explored by the staff if they strike out on guys like Hunter. Missing out on the top option shouldn't be looked at like a program-killer, because a lot of guys can help this program right now.

Seeing as we are seven players under for next year, having one for the class of 2018 wouldn't hurt.

I'll withhold judgment until we see how it works out, but Holtmann has been recruiting Hunter for years at Butler. Losing him to Beilein is not a good look. You can't sugar-coat it.
