Jackson's Bailey selected for Nike Top 100 camp

Evan Bailey was one of the main scoring threats for the Polar Bears this past winter as a sophomore. He will not show his skill off at the Nike Elite 100 basketball camp.

Evan Bailey is headed to St. Louis. No, the Polar Bears 6?5? junior hasn?t made a decision on where he?ll be playing college basketball. That announcement is probably about a year away. Bailey is in Missouri to play in the Nike Elite 100 basketball camp that started this morning.

Bailey was informed two weeks ago that he had been invited to join other outstanding players from around the country in the three-day camp.

?My AAU coach from All-Ohio Red told me last month that I had been selected,? Bailey said earlier in the week. ?I?m pretty excited because I?ll be competing against some the top players in my class.?

The Nike Elite Camp is recognized as one of the top competitive events in the country. Although the NCAA prohibits college coaches from attending the camp they are provided with information after the event is over.

?I?m pretty sure the skills session and the afternoon games are taped.? Bailey said. ?And, I think college coaches have access to the taped sessions.?

Bailey emerged as one of the top young players in Ohio after an outstanding sophomore season with the Polar Bears. He?s already been offered a scholarship by Miami, Ohio, with more offers likely to come in the next few months. Pittsburgh head coach Jamie Dixon has been in Jackson to watch Bailey, and Ohio State coach Thad Matta was impressed with the combo-guard during last summer?s team camp on the OSU campus.

?I?ve been told there are other schools that plan to offer me in the next couple weeks,? Bailey said. ?I?ll just have to see what happens and probably make my decision before my senior season.?

Evan Bailey: Not many outside of Massillon (Ohio) Jackson know about the 6-foot-6 junior scoring wing, but Rivals did have the foresight to put Bailey in the Rivals150, where he checks in at No. 146 in the 2014 class. Bailey has great size for a guard who can play any of the three perimeter positions, and really excels at shooting the basketball from deep. Already with offers from Akron, Kent State, Ohio University and Miami (Ohio), plus others, Bailey is starting to receive strong interest from Dayton, West Virginia and Boston College as well. While he didn't have his best scoring game, with 12 points in a win, Bailey showed a really high offensive IQ in setting up teammates for assists and taking advantage of mismatches when he scored off of finesse drives.
