Tom Tupa Jr.'s arm brings 'Golden Foot' back to Brecksville-Broadview Heights
Joe Maxse, Plain Dealer Reporter, August 26, 2011 11:43 p.m.
. . .
After more than 3 1/2 hours of start-and-stop play -- passing and penalties the order of the night -- the Bees came away with the win, 31-26, as they rode the arm of junior quarterback Tom Tupa Jr. to the victory in the annual "Golden Shoe" contest.
. . .
Tupa, who threw four touchdown passes, will have to soak his arm after this one. He finished with 27 completions on 55 attempts for 420 yards.
"That was something else," said Tupa, who also had two passes picked off. "I'll see how it feels in the morning. I wasn't expecting that. But it's Week 1 and we've got a lot of work to do."
The Bees took a 31-19 lead into the fourth quarter after Tupa hooked up with junior wide receiver Paul Karthan for a 71-yard scoring play. It was their second scoring play of the night.
Tupa put his club back in front two plays later as he found Karthan behind the North Royalton defense for a 62-yard touchdown to make it 22-19.
