Michigan, MSU earn high praise from attacking DT Greg Webb
Sam Webb
In the world of college football, blue chip defensive linemen are often among of the more rare commodities. In recent years the SEC has been home to an overwhelming number of such players and has established itself as a conference synonymous with elite defensive line play. That said, the SEC is not the only league whose tradition in the trenches entices All-American prospects. In the case of four-star Erial (N.J.) Timber Creek High defensive tackle Greg Webb, the Big Ten could wind up being the league of choice.
"I think Big Ten, and it reminds of blue collar and old school," said the youngster's father, Greg Webb Sr. "Blue-collar football, that's what it reminds me of. I would say last season probably was one of the best years of the Big Ten I've ever seen. I was intrigued watching the games last year. I'm from down south and I love the ACC and SEC too, but the Big Ten to me ? it fits my son. The Big Ten just fits him."
Mr. Webb continued: "(Greg) not a very tall kid (6-2). When I look at him I say, 'Greg, you've got to be in a defense where you attack.' That's why I do like the Michigans, I do like the Penn States, I do like the Iowas ? I like those guys that do a lot with little. That's why I would say the ideal person that I say my son reminds me of is Mike Martin. Through the season I watched Mike Martin and he's one of my favorite D-linemen. Him and (Mike) Daniels out of Iowa are probably two of my favorite because they're undersized and they're badgers. They're real tough. They just seem like no-nonsense kind of guys to me. My son is a guy like those guys."
