Shelby County freshman Darryl Hicks may be young, "They're coming back at me pretty heavy right now." He's already a veteran when it comes to recruiting.

He's also a mature player on the court. Hicks spends each off-season getting better at a specific area of his game, last summer it was hit outside shot. This summer the 6'4" guard is focusing on ball handling, "I can see myself playing as a 1 in college. I'm not going to be too much taller, so I've got to learn to run the one."

As far as recruiting goes Hicks has 2 offers, Arizona and Indiana. Ohio State, Cincinnati, Missouri, and Kentucky are interested. He definitely likes Kentucky.

"Right now they are probably one of my top schools that I would pick right now to go to college," added Hicks.

His interest in the Cats pretty much lies on John Calipari, "I like how Coach Cal runs his offense, he's a nice coach he's the type of guy who likes to play up tempo basketball and that's something I like to do."

Just don't expect Hicks to be an early commit. He's in no rush.

"I'm just laying back and waiting to see which one I really want."

Crean watches Hicks; Hysteria update
Indiana University basketball coach Tom Crean spent some time at Trinity High School in Louisville on Tuesday, watching sophomore Darryl Hicks.

The 6-foot-4 Hicks (photo, left) is the top player in the state of Kentucky among the Class of 2013 prospects but will be sitting out this season after transferring from Shelby County. Hicks was playing open gym with other Trinity players on Tuesday in Steinhauser Gymnasium.

Hicks said Crean spent more than an hour watching the Shamrocks.

Indiana assistant coach Tim Buckley was at Trinity last week to see Hicks, who attended IU's Hoosier Hysteria last year and was invited back for this year's festivities - on Friday.

Darryl Hicks Sr., the players' father, said he wasn't sure yet if his son would attend IU's opening practice event of a camp this weekend in Chicago. A decision is coming mid-week.

With or without Hicks, the Indiana Hysteria will be loaded with talent. There will be plenty of prospects from the state of Indiana and elsewhere in attendance.
