Ht: 6-5 Wt: 165
Position: SG, SF
Year: Class of 2013
AAU Team: SW Jets
High School: Belleville High School-East
(Belleville, IL)
Strengths:
Hill is a long lean wing that is a very good scorer. He is a good athlete with matching bounce. Hill can get into a flow or rhythm and make tough shots over smaller defenders off the catch or dribble with his mid range game. Hill is also a good slasher especially along the baseline where he displayed a good first step and body control. He can make open threes with time and space and Hill is a good straight line ball handler and willing passer when he draws a second defender. He also gets a couple offensive rebound put backs at times mostly from his own misses. Hill is an active on ball defender that does a good job of pressuring the ball and using his length to stay in front of the ball handler. He is capable of defending both wing positions as well. Hill plays with good energy and competes on both ends of the floor.

Weaknesses:
Adding strength should be at the top of Hill's to do list in addition to finishing better through contact which should improve with strength. He also must make his jumper from behind the arc a consistent weapon in order to be considered a full time shooting guard. Hill could also be more productive on the defensive glass given his length.

Bottom Line:
Hill is a wing scorer that can make plays off the dribble and knock down open three's when in rhythm. Hill plays with confidence on the offensive end of the floor and can make tough shots over smaller defenders. He is a good on ball defender that can defend both wing positions. He must continue to work on his jumper from three point range and as he adds strength his finishing and rebounding production should go to the next level. Hill is a young for his grade and has tremendous upside.

Class Of 2013 Belleville East Star Malcolm Hill Picks Up A Scholarship Offer From The University Of Missouri
Written by Cavan Walsh
Wednesday, 18 May 2011

Class of 2013 Belleville East star Malcolm Hill of the Southwest Illinois Jets has now picked up a scholarship offer from the University of Missouri.

Hill, a 6'4 shooting guard, has seen his recruiting stock explode this spring on the travel team circuit with the Jets. Hill ranks among the truly elite prospects in a loaded Illinois Class of 2013, and currently also holds a Top 50 national ranking in the 2013 class.

Hill picked up the scholarship offer while on an unofficial visit to Missouri on Tuesday. Hill likes both the coaching staff at Missouri as well as the style that they play. Ohio State, Illinois, Xavier, Indiana, SLU, Michigan, Notre Dame, and some others are the schools mentioned by Hill as being currently involved.

Distance from home will not factor in Hill's decision. ?The distance of the college isn?t going to be a factor in what college I want to go to. I?m also looking at how the coaching staff is, team chemistry, and the environment around the program. My relationship with the coaches and the education they can provide me with are also huge factors as well.?

Hill has enjoyed the spring. "It?s going great. My last tournament I averaged about twenty-seven points a game and our team is 19 and 5 so far. All the teams we lost to are top twenty-five teams and it?s not like they blew us out. We just couldn?t finish down the stretch or we let the game go. My weaknesses so far this season are rebounding and my aggressiveness on the defense end,? said Hill.

Belleville East sophomore swingman Malcolm Hill Jr. has been busy lately.

A 6-foot-5, 190-pound shooting guard who is just 15 years old, Hill has been impressing college basketball coaches on the summer circuit with the Southwestern Illinois Jets, visiting schools whenever he gets the chance.

He recently picked up his first scholarship offers.

New University of Missouri coach Frank Haith and Southern Illinois Carbondale coach Chris Lowery were the first coaches to extend offers to Hill, and those figure to be the first of many opportunities coming Hill's way.

"It was exciting," Hill said of the offer from Mizzou. "I don't want to say relieving, but, yeah, I was excited about it."

After averaging 5.4 points per game as a freshman as the Lancers went 12-15, Hill had a breakout campaign as a sophomore.

He averaged a team-high 16.7 points to go along with 4.1 rebounds, 2 steals and 2 assists per game. Hill made 74.2 percent of his free throw attempts and 30.9 percent of his 3-point tries as Belleville West went 22-7 and finished third in the Southwestern Conference.

Hill's father, Malcolm Hill Sr., who won six conference championships as the coach at Normandy, is currently at Northwest Academy. He played at University of Missouri-St. Louis from 1991-95 and now helps his son navigate through the recruiting process.

The Belleville East youngster is gaining increased attention.

"The schools that are recruiting me the hardest are Illinois, Missouri, Xavier, Notre Dame, Michigan and I think Wisconsin," he said. "That's all I know of so far. And Ohio State."

Hill has a busy summer planned, which includes traveling to tournaments with the Jets, visiting colleges and participating in elite camps at various schools.

"I'm going to the Reebok Camp sometime this summer," Hill said. "Then I'm visiting Ohio State, Xavier and Illinois and Michigan this summer. I'm basically going to be gone every week in June."

Q & A: 2013 Belleville (IL) guard Malcolm Hill
by Alex Bozich in Recruiting | June 9th, 2011

One of the newest names to emerge on Indiana?s 2013 recruiting radar is Belleville (IL) guard Malcolm Hill. The 6-foot-5, 195-pound guard, who plays AAU with the SW Illinois Jets, took an unofficial trip to Bloomington on Sunday.

On his visit, Hill had the opportunity to tour campus with assistant coach Bennie Seltzer and also participated in a camp at Assembly Hall and Cook Hall. Inside the Hall caught up with ESPN.com?s No. 36 overall player in the 2013 class on Wednesday night for a Q & A:

(Editor?s note: HD video of Hill from the adidas May Classic is available after the jump.)

On the Sunday trip to Bloomington:

?It was just a visit. I looked around their campus and went to their camp and that?s all. They have a nice campus, it?s a good environment and I saw that they have good study habits. Their study program has their kids make time for school and basketball.?

On Cook Hall and the camp:

?I really like the practice facility a lot. I talked to Coach Crean. We went through drills. We talked about how their style of play was and how they do team ball instead of individual basketball.?

On his feelings about Illinois and Missouri, who were the first two schools to offer and the other schools recruiting him:

?I?m kind of neutral about it. I?m not too excited. But then again I?m not just waving it off. I?m glad they offered me a scholarship. The other schools that are looking at me are Ohio State, Xavier, UCLA, Notre Dame, Wisconsin, Providence and Tennessee.?

On upcoming camps and visits he has planned:

?I?m going to visit Michigan this weekend. I?m going to visit Ohio State in about three weeks and I?m going to the Reebok Camp.?

Hill recently took an unofficial visit to Michigan before attending Michigan?s College Practice Camp on Saturday. The Illinois-native took the time to discuss his visit to Michigan this evening:

On his game: I?m a slasher and I get to the basket very well. I play hard on the defensive end, I get to the free throw line a lot and I can hit the mid-range shot.

On what he?s working to improve: I?m working on rebounding and my three point shot.

On the other schools recruiting him: Indiana, Illinois, Missouri, Xavier, Ohio State, Providence, UCLA and Wisconsin.

On current scholarship offers: Illinois, Missouri and SIU-Carbondale.

On future visits: I?m going to Ohio State this weekend and Xavier the day after

By Nate Latsch | STLhighschoolsports.com | Posted: Monday, September 12, 2011

Belleville East junior swingman Malcolm Hill Jr. doesn't turn 16 until next month, but he already knows where he wants to continue his basketball career.

Hill made a verbal commitment to the University of Illinois on Monday night, picking the Illini after also considering Xavier, Kansas State and Missouri.

"It was the hometown school," Hill said. "That was one of the reasons. My family is here, so they could come to my games. It's the best situation for me right now. I like it there. I like their coaching staff. They have a strong alumni group."
