As June 15th has finally come, colleges coaches are now able to contact rising juniors from the class of 2013. This entitles divison one schools to make contact, via phone call, with current sophomores. Starting at midnight on Wednesday, June 15th, they can call. Below is a list of what?s going on; which players are being called by which schools a few weeks before the July Live Period.

Ohio State: Brannen Greene,

http://www.therecruitscoop.com/college-coaches-make-calls-to-class-of-2013

Strengths:
Greene is a dynamic shooter. He possesses a classic jump shot and a solid well rounded offensive package. He is a good athlete that is effective attacking seams in transition. He has a solid mid range game and uses his size to get his shot off easily against smaller players.

Weaknesses:
Greene needs to show consistency on the defensive end of the court. He has range on his perimeter shot to 22 feet but he needs to work on his dribble pull-up and drive to the basket. Greene is a decent defender, but needs to become more focused on that end of the court. He has good length and athletic ability so he has the tools to be a serviceable defensive player.

Bottom Line:
Greene has the size, athleticism and skill level that the high majors love, but he needs to continue to mature as both a person and a player. He has improved a lot over the last year but must continue to focus on developing his overall game on both sides of the ball to become a more complete player.

I split time watching the 2013 Atlanta Hawks and it?s standout wing, 6-7 Brannen Greene, and the 2013 Indiana Elite South team coached by Dan Dakich. Greene is ranked No. 22 in the ?13 class by Scout.com and is extremely talented. He should probably get the ball more than he does, or at least seemed to on Wednesday. He?s a good ballhandler and can really shoot it from the perimeter. Greene said he?s likely to cut down his list after July and make a decision in October or November. Pretty much all of the marquee schools in the country are after the Georgia native and he visited Duke and Georgia Tech recently. He?s also planning trips to Louisville (Aug. 3) and Ohio State.

Here?s a sneak preview of some prospects who will draw the attention of Matta and his assistants this month:

Brannen Greene
Height, Weight: 6-7, 180
Position: Shooting Guard
School: Monroe (Ga.) Mary Persons
ESPN Ranking: 4th among SGs, 15th overall in class of 2013
Considering: Alabama, Duke, Florida, Florida State, Marquette, Ohio State
Camp This Week: adidas Invitational
Outlook: Matta always has placed high value on shooters with size, especially ones that can play unselfishly in the team concept. Greene fits that bill, and since he is yet to go into his junior season he also could be a logical part of the Ohio State recruiting equation. He has made an unofficial visit to Duke?s campus and said this week that he plans to also check out Ohio State next month. Greene has a silky smooth jumper with plenty of range and is athletic enough to play the wing spots. He needs to improve defensively and become a little more determined when driving to the hole but there is plenty of time for him to become a superstar. And he?s already one of the best in the country for his age bracket.

CLASS OF 2013 Q&A: BRANNEN GREENE

July 20, 2011 by NBE Blogger

NBE got a chance to conduct an interview with Brannen Greene over the weekend. Greene is a highly regarded G/F out of Mary Persons High School in Monroe (GA). Playing with the Southern Kings AAU program you can be sure Greene will be a priority for college coaches to see in the next open evaluation period whihc runs from 7/22 ? 7/31. The rising junior (Class of 2013) has heard from many high-major college programs since schools were officially able to contact players in the class beginning on June 15th. Below is our Q&A with Brannen Greene:

NBE: What is your current height and weight?

Brannen Greene (BG): I?m 6?7 and 197 lbs
?????-

NBE: What was the highlight of the first 10-day open evaluation period for you?

BG: My highlight of this first half would probably be having so many top-notch coaches at my games in Indianapolis (Adidas Invitational).
?????-

NBE: With coaches allowed to be at these open evaluation AAU games, do you notice who is in the stands watching? Anyone in particulat stick out who has been watching?

BG: I peak every now and then when I go over to the bench but otherwise I dont really notice. No one in particular sticks out because I?m wide open so I have no favorite coaches right now.
?????

NBE: How does your recruiting picture look right now?

BG: I have offers from Florida, Memphis, Florida State, Ohio State, Tennessee, Georgia Tech, Alabama, Xavier, Marquette, Harvard, Louisville, NC State, Providence, Mercer, Virginia, and I?m sure I?m missing a few. Right now I?m considering a ton of schools: Kansas, Alabama, Georgia Tech, Marquette, Harvard, Louisville, Memphis, Duke, Kentucky, Connecticut, Tennessee, Florida, Florida State, Ohio State, Stanford, Mercer, Xavier, Cincinnati, NC State, Georgia, Seton Hall, Providence, etc.
????????

NBE: What factors will be most important in your college decision? Do you have an ideal time frame for a college decision?

BG: Academics and tradition will factor into my decision. I will probably decide around late November, early December.
??????

NBE: What are you working on the most to improve your game?

BG: I just wanna improve on my defensive intensity, overall IQ, and strength. keep getting better everyday.
??????

NBE: What are you looking forward to the most in this second 10-day live evaluation period?

BG: I?m looking forward to bonding with my teammates and going down to Orlando and winning a national championship. Not to mention the amount of offers I hope to acquire?

Brannen Greene drawing attention from top schools
Posted on July 21, 2011 by Josh Paunil

Class of 2013 small forward Brannen Greene is from a small town in Georgia with less than 15,000 people in it, but he still has the top colleges in the country chasing after him.

?I?ve received interest from Duke, Georgia Tech, Alabama, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisville, FSU, Florida, Tennessee, Indiana, Marquette, UConn, N.C. State and Georgia,? Greene says. Among those schools, he names Florida, Memphis, Duke, Alabama and Florida State as the schools recruiting him the hardest.

Duke, Alabama and Florida State popped up again during our interview with Greene when he listed his favorite coaching staffs. ?I really like Memphis? coaching staff, Florida State?s, I really like Alabama?s, Duke?s, Ohio State?s, Florida?s and UConn?s,? says Greene. ?Those are the ones that stick out. They?re all so energetic and seem like player?s coaches.?

BRANNEN GREENE SETS LOUISVILLE VISIT; PLANNING OTHER TRIPS

Pushing 6-foot-7, Brannen Greene is a mismatch on the wing due to his height and refined skill set. The Monroe (GA) native is a solid athlete with a good build who can do quite a bit with the ball in his hands. Greene has a high basketball IQ and good court vision, allowing him to hit the open man in position to score. His handle is superb and he can get through the defense on the way to the rack. Greene finishes pretty well at the rim and is crafty down low against the big bodies. He has nice form on his jumper, though he has yet to become a truly consistent shooter from deep. Greene puts in effort at the defensive end and can cause problems on the perimeter due to his length.

Greene has seen his stock explode as much as anyone in the Class of 2013 this summer and he a school list to prove it. He said that he has offers from Louisville, Georgia Tech, Georgia, Alabama, Marquette, Florida State, Florida, Connecticut, Kansas, Ohio State, Memphis, South Carolina, the equivalent of such from Harvard as well as ?a lot more.?

In addition, he is hearing from Duke and Kentucky. He claims no favorites at this point.

As for who is coming at him the hardest, he said, ?Pretty much everybody, but I?ve?Ohio State, Memphis, [Georgia] Tech, UConn, FSU, and Florida I?ve probably been contacted by the most.?

Thus far, Greene has visited Alabama, Georgia Tech, South Carolina and Duke. He has other trips planned, though.

?The third I?ll be visiting Louisville, August [third, that is],? Greene said.?[On the] 28th of September I?ll be visiting Harvard . . . I plan to visit Ohio State and Florida sometime too, but I?ll visit anybody.?

On when he plans to commit: ?Late November, early December is when I?m gonna make a short list and then shortly after that I?ll decide.?

Greene said he does not know of any schools that will for sure make the cut. He also said, ?It won?t be anymore than probably eight [schools on the list] though.?
