House's sleeper team

This week, Danuel House (Sugarland, Texas/Hightower) released a list of 10 schools he's considering including Arizona, Baylor, Houston, Georgetown, Missouri, Oregon, Texas, Ohio State, Georgia Tech and Kansas (in no specific order). His list has your standard collection of big dogs, medium-sized BCS schools and then there's hometown Houston. James Dickey's Cougars are on the list and if you're one of the big boys, maybe you're apt to overlook them. Big mistake.

According to Marland Lowe, House's AAU coach with Texas Pro, the Cougars are strong. Though they might not be given the proper credit for their strength, Houston is a major player for his services. House is aware of the tradition at Houston and he's a family kid. Baylor coach Scott Drew and Dickey worked him the hardest and from what Lowe could gather, attended nearly every game this summer.

House will conduct home visits before setting up official visits and if you're looking for teams to pay attention to with his recruitment, look no further than Arizona, Georgetown, Texas, Ohio State, Baylor and Houston; they're going to be around a while.

Ohio State is new to the party. Following House's game on ESPNU at the Super Showcase, Thad Matta's team got itself involved, and quickly made up ground. The Buckeyes were at every one of House's games following the appearance.

DANUEL HOUSE IMPRESSED WITH VISIT TO HOUSTON; CONSIDERING LIST OF SIX SCHOOLS

September 7, 2011 by NBE Blogger

It was a big weekend on the University of Houston campus last week as head coach James Dickey and his staff welcomed highly regarded Texas PRO AAU teammates Danuel House and Danrad ?Chicken? Knowles to campus for visits. The Cougars? football team held on for a thrilling 38-34 win over UCLA and the basketball program made a strong impression on their visitors.

?It was good and it was very fun,? House told NBE yesterday, adding the highlight was ?how I and Coach Dickey talked the moment they have when you walk in the school.?

House would be a huge get for Dickey?s Conference USA program, pushing 6-foot-7 and weighing 195 pounds, House has good size for the small forward position to go along with big-time athleticism. A high-flyer, House is an explosive finisher at the rim who can produce highlight reel dunks. He has good length and a strong build. House can connect from long range, though he is still improving his consistency with his perimeter shot. He handles the ball well and gets to the rim off the bounce. He has a good motor and could become a superb perimeter defender if he works at it. House was one of the spring?s biggest stock boosters and his development is by no means finished as he only started playing basketball in the 8th grade and has recently hit a growth spurt which pushed him from a mid-level prospect to one of the nation?s elite in a few short months.

House has visited Houston before so he continues to build the relationship with the staff and school. He also previously visited Baylor and he updated NBE the current list of schools he is considering that are active in his recruitment.

?U of H, Baylor, Georgetown, Ohio State, Kansas and Texas,? said House of the schools recruiting him, adding that there are ?no favorites right now.?

Scout $ - House Cuts List To Six

9/7

By Wasserman...Ohio State, Georgetown, Kansas, Houston, Texas and Baylor...his AAU coach talks about why he is interested in OSU.

I don't know why it surprises me anymore, but the national level Matta has taken OSU recruiting is impressive. House would be a HUGE get, hopefully we can pull it off.

Danuel House, Chicken Knowles to UH
By Paul Biancardi
ESPN Recruiting

The Houston Cougars landed two of their biggest prospects since the days of Phi Slamma Jamma when five-star SF Danuel House and four-star PF Danrad "Chicken" Knowles committed to the Cougars on Sunday night.

"I choose Houston because Coach [James] Dickey made me think long and hard about staying home and playing in front of my family and friends," House said. " I feel that will be an honor and a privilege to do that.

"I want to help bring back Houston basketball where it needs to be nationally," said House, who chose the Cougars over Georgetown, Baylor, Texas, Kansas, Ohio State and other top programs.

Dickey must have done one hell of a job recruiting House. Cougar High is in a bad part of town, hasn't had a good team since before House was born, is not a good school, is an ugly campus and the facilities are third rate. Besides that, fantastic place....lol. Anyway, can't fault a kid for staying home. Good luck to him.

Isn't Houston a decent academic school as well? The only reason I could think of him going their was maybe U of H wasn't good academically and he wasn't a bright kid, but I feel like if he wanted to stay in-state Texas/Baylor would certainly be better, if he wanted academicas Georgetown would be better, and if he wanted top national BBall program, Kansas & OSU would be better. Maybe Dickey just did a helluva job.

I guess it depends on your definition of "Decent". US News and World Report has UofH as unranked but there are certainly worse places to go to school academics wise. Agree about Texas and Baylor being better in-state options. A&M would seem like a better choice too. However, House certainly has the opportunity to be "The Man" at Houston and play early.
