Evaluation

March, 2010: Bryce is an intriguing, bouncy, mobile 4-man prospect for the power forward position in the 2012 class. He is a swift moving 6-9 thin forward with narrow shoulders which is a concern, but has the athleticism, wingspan and skills to be a high major prospect. He has high major length and can run and jump with the best of them and grab boards above the rim. Bryce runs the floor scores in transition and is quick with his drop step dunk. He must add weight to be able to bang down low at the next level. Johnson can play in an uptempo-pressing system, played at the front of the press. The All State performer is a top player in South Carolina's 2012 class.

Junior forward 6-9 Brice Johnson of Edisto has offers from USC, Clemson, Ohio State and the College of Charleston according to his AAU coach. "He's open and is in no rush," said Carolina Ravens coach Deion Bethea. Johnson was at USC earlier this week to watch football practice with his father who is the football coach at Edisto.

6-9 Brice Johnson of Edisto, one of the state's top prospects in the 2012 class, made an unofficial visit to USC for the Furman football game. Johnson's AAU coach, Dion Bethea, said Johnson likes USC and Clemson and is "wide open" right now. Florida, Ohio State and Georgia are also very interested in the big man. Brice Johnson (CP3 All Stars/2012) ? Johnson is a 6?9? power forward with a wiry frame and very long arms. He dominated a match up with the highly touted DaJuan Coleman by dunking everything in sight on the offensive end and giving Coleman fits on the other end with his superior length and timing. Johnson rebounded at a high level as well using his explosive leaping ability to rise over opponents and snatch balls out of the air. While he needs to get in the weight room and add strength, Johnson does know how to play to his athletic advantages. Coleman is among the strongest players in America and Johnson did not got pushed around inside at all in this contest.

Recruiting Updates:
Brice Johnson ? After putting on a show against DaJuan Coleman, Johnson was getting a lot of buzz in the gym. His head coach for CP3 told me that he has major interest from Ohio State, Florida, Clemson, South Carolina, Missouri, and a ?host of other SEC schools.?

Edisto High School's Brice Johnson has been playing well at the Nike Peach Jam.

North Augusta's Nike Peach Jam has established itself as one of the country's top AAU summer hoops tournaments.

Need convinving? Check out the tournament which runs through Friday, scan the crowd, and there will surely be familiar faces. Seemingly every major college coach - from Louisville's Rick Pitino to North Carolina's Roy Williams - has stopped off at the tournament this week. They flock to the tournament with good reason. The list of former Peach Jam participants includes names like Dirk Nowitzki, Yao Ming, Dwyane Wade, Carmelo Anthony, Kevin Durant, Derrick Rose and Blake Griffin.

The way things are going this week, there might just be another name to add to that prolific list - Edisto High School's Brice Johnson.

Playing for Chris Paul's CP3 All-Stars, Johnson, the 2011 T&D Boys' Basketball Player of the Year and the state's Gatorade Player of the Year, has been impressive. In his team's opener Tuesday morning, the 6-9 Johnson shined against the Albany Rocks, scoring 19 points, grabbing seven rebounds and blocking six shots. Reportedly, Johnson made his first 15 shots in the tournament, 13 of which were dunks.

According to recruiting writer Phil Kornblut, Johnson's performance has already led to picked up offers from Connecticut head coach Jim Calhoun and St. Johns head coach Steve Lavin. Those offers add to a large list that, according to Kornblut, includes Clemson, South Carolina, Ohio State, Marquette, Tennessee, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Virginia Tech, Florida State, South Florida and Florida.

And, the way Johnson has played in front of the best coaches in the country, the list figures to be even longer by week's end.

Ranked #88 in the Pre-July Top 100, 6'9 power forward Brice Johnson is due for a nice bump up the list after his extremely impressive showing at the Peach Jam. The Edisto (SC) star was fantastic for the CP3 All-Stars and seems to be taking his game to a new level.

Johnson said he holds offers from Florida, Clemson, South Carolina, Ohio State, Miami, Virginia Tech and others. Although he said "everybody [is] even" in his recruitment, Johnson noted that Florida and Clemson are the two schools coming after him the hardest.

To date, Johnson (pictured on right) said he has taken visits to Florida, Clemson and South Carolina. He has no other visits scheduled, though he plans to make his commitment "before the season" starts. Location will not be a factor, Johnson said.

Johnson takes his visit to NC State

By Phil Kornblut
6-9 Brice Johnson of Edisto made an official visit to NC State over the weekend. That was his first of five expected official visits. He made the trip with his father and his AAU coach. ?I thought it was a good overall visit,? said AAU coach Deion Bethea. ?We focused on who they are recruiting and how they will use Brice. We did a lot of that same stuff on the unofficial visit. And, academics. He spent a lot of time with Coach Gottfried.? Johnson will be taking official visits to Florida and North Carolina, and Bethea said it looks good for USC and Clemson to get official visits as well.
