Demetrious Cox, Jeannette
THE SKINNY
A multi-talented player who is a standout at both quarterback and defensive back, Cox is considered one of the best two-way players in the state. As a QB, he's an excellent runner, but his best position is defensive back. Rivals.com ranks him the No. 14 safety in the country.
COLLEGE TALK
Cox is being heavily recruited and has scholarship offers from many colleges, including Pitt, Penn State, Ohio State, Michigan State, Kansas and Arizona State. LSU and Alabama also are showing interest. He plans to narrow his list to eight or 10 schools soon, but said he has no favorite at this time.
OUR QUESTIONS, HIS ANSWERS
Every college wants you as a defensive back. Are you OK with that? That's what I like to play the best.
No thoughts of wanting to be a quarterback in college? I like being physical and you can do that on defense. I like going up and taking the ball off receivers. I like playing safety and being a ball-hawk.
Did you think you would be recruited this much? I honestly didn't. I just kept trying to work hard. I wasn't worried about being recruited.
What would be the ultimate season for Demetrious Cox? A state title and blow out Greensburg Central Catholic [laugh]. That would probably be enough right there.
Have you ever had a job? Yeah, I was a busboy for DeNunzio's restaurant [in Jeannette] last summer. I didn't work this summer.
Something you'd like to get for back to school? A G-Shock watch.
Do you know Terrelle Pryor at all? Yeah. I worked out with him a couple times when I was younger.
Have you learned anything from him? Yes, just seeing how hard he works off the field. People may not know, but he was actually a really good leader and really good team player. He's a winner, too.
Where did he mess up the most? I don't think he messed up at all. God does everything for a reason. Terrelle is going to be cool.
AND FINALLY ...
People might be surprised to know that you ...? I was a black belt in karate when I was 6.
