Evaluation
July, 2009: Malik is a raw run and jump athlete. He is a little awkward but has been playing with tremendous energy lately and has really improved his stock. Offensively he scores off the glass and has a decent face up game to 14 feet. He needs to add strength but he is effective inside. He has become a good rebounder with his length and athletic ability. Those same attributes make him a very effective shotblocker. He is a very good defensive player. Once Malik adds strength and continues to hone his game, the sky is the limit on his potential.
May, 2009: Malik is a very long and thin, developing post player. He is very raw right now but is developing and improving constantly. His offense is limited to put backs, tip ins and drop offs. He can face and shoot a little to 12 feet. He can also put the ball on the floor for a couple of dribbles and score. He is a decent rebounder but is very weak. He needs strength and girth badly. He tends to get knocked out of position and can sometimes have the ball taken from him. His hands and feet are both just adequate at this point. Again, strength will help fix some of his issues. He is a very effective shotblocker both on and off the ball. He runs fairly well and is active on both ends of the court.
