E-feh-dee Ode-nig-bo.

Saw that somebody was able to interpret his name on another site, and he believes this is how it's pronounced.

BTW, love that this kid got an offer. Seems like a great kid on and off the field. Can't get much better than that.

If I remember correctly, we had another great person on our football team that was from Nigeria. He turned out to be an all-american.

Unless corrupted to make it easier for Americans to pronounce, it would sound more like e-FEH-dee o-DEH-NIG-bo, with CAPS syllables emphasized slightly more than other syllables.

The Buckeyes extended a scholarship offer Wednesday -- a development that many pundits believe is an ominous sign for all of the other programs giving chase. That's because Odenigbo's good friend and teammate, Michael Bennett, will be a Buckeye freshman next year. Even so, assuming Bennett's presence in Columbus ensures Odenigbo's might be a mistake.

"I talked to Mike (Wednesday) afternoon about it and he said he'd love to see him go to Ohio State, but he's not the type to bug him about it," Ullery told Scout.com. "It's about going through the process and he wants to make sure (Odenigbo) looks at everything, takes visits to the schools he really likes, and makes a decision in his own best interest. That's just the type of person Mike is."

Added Odenigbo: "The Ohio State offer was very special to me, and my heart started pounding when I heard about it. (But) there are other schools I'm interested in and I will be taking unofficial visits with my parents to different schools."

The talented youngster maintains that all of his suitors are on equal footing. Notre Dame (no offer), Northwestern, Illinois, and all of the other contenders will be evaluated thoroughly, especially when it comes to their scholastic reputations.

I have to ask; how do you know this?

Steve19 lives in South Africa, and is very adept at African culture and languages. Plus, that's also how I'd guess "Ifeadi Odenigbo" would be pronouced. Actually, I'd say "Ifeadi" would be pronounced "ee-feh-ah-dee". I agee totally with the "o-deh-nig-bo" pronounciation.

Lokhu sengimtshelile ngisayokuthini? ("Since I already told him, what more shall I say?" in Zulu).

Oh, and I did take an elective in linguistics at Ohio State and once stayed at a Holiday Inn in Africa.

Sub-Saharan African indigenous languages generally place an emphasis on the second or middle syllable of words. Many Asian languages are expressed tonally and have a very beautiful musical quality when spoken by a native speaker.

His first name may also be pronounced as ee-fee-AH-dee. Listen to this word in Yoruba and you will hear the emphasis of the third syllable (link). Here is a word in Imela (link). Can't find an audio file in Hausa. These are all major languages, but I am not sure what language his name will be from. There are some 500 languages and dialects in Nigeria. I don't speak any of them.

I read through his thread over at MGoblog and picked up a couple things. First, there was a general deflation in the weasel faithful that they have much shot now that the Bucks have offered. The Centerville connection to OSU and his friendship with M. Bennett aren't allowing much optimism at this point.

Second, a poster from Dayton who implied he has some closer information to IO's situation, said that it Ifeadi's dream to go to medical school at Stanford, and follow in the footsteps of his parents. It will be interesting as this recruitment plays out whether Stanford becomes a player.
