'12 OH DE Greg McMullen (Nebraska Verbal)

Tressel will point out how far away Nebraska is and how difficult it will be for his family to see him play there. That is certainly a form of negative recruiting.

However, I highly doubt that he will show clips of Pelini going ballistic in players faces on the sidelines, as a part of his pitch which was suggested earlier. Do you agree?

Agreed...but there is a lot of ground taht can be covered between "Nebraska is far away" and "watch this clip of Pelini acting like the drill sergeant from Full Metal Jacket"? Would you agree?

Yeah, I'm just saving face. I was responding to a specific suggestion about negatively recruiting and I was over broad in my response. You rightfully called me out, and here we are.

Wasn't meaning to call you out...just trying to bring a little balance to the discussion. It's all good...

Another thing to consider re: Nebraska is they have not offered many DEs according to their insiders (although I count 9 in Scout's database and 16 in Rivals' database).

Also worth noting that the Nebraska staff probably doesn't have to bring up the stuff in Columbus very often considering almost every reporter from every Rivals and Scout affiliate brings it up every time they interview him. Same goes for other Ohio kids with OSU offers...

IMO I think a lot of these kids watch ESPN, and I think a lot of them are gettin' a little scared by the things being thrown around by the talking heads. I'm sure OSU has been talked down by a lot of programs. But IMHO, I think NU has done a great job. Add in the NCAA media strom, and you got the perfect strom to lose a Buckeye lock.

Ohio is loaded with OSU prospects at the DE position, not just D1.

During most years, Tom Strobel would be a potential top-10 player in Ohio, this year he's the 3rd-5th best DE prospect, maybe lower if you classify Odenigbo as a rush end hybrid.

McMullen, Hoban junior defensive end, on the initial allegations against Tressel:

''When it happened I was kind of shocked and I sort of kept up with it, but after a while then it died down in a way. Now that it's happened, it's like wow! You could never say Ohio State without mentioning Tressel, especially in this era. It was a shocker.''

McMullen on how the resignation affects his options:

''It has had a major impact. I'm just going to call [assistant] coach [Jim] Heacock, talk to him and probably get down for one more visit. Obviously it's going to affect me greatly because you can never say. Who knows where the program is going to head. It could still be good and prosper and fight through adversity and do great things next season. Or it can go downhill. Jim Tressel is a heck of a guy. It affects my decision because he was the face of Ohio State. Now when people look at Ohio State, they see other [negative] things. I have to deal with that. Where do I personally want to go? I've got a lot to process.''

McMullen to Nebraska. Not a shocker. Down to Washington and Lewis for Ohio DE's in 2012 (assuming Wormley to tsun)

I'm pretty ok with those options (and Odenigbo) for prospects since we already have 3 Solid/Great DE prospects from the 2011 class. As much as I wanted them all, it never made sense to me for Ohio State to land a class of Washington, Wormley, Pittman, McMullen and Strobel one year removed from getting Farris, Miller and Hayes (plus/minus Shazier). Would I love for Ohio State to get every elite DE they can? Yes, but I just don't see the playing time for players that all have NFL aspirations.

And at least this clears up our offer list so Washington, Lewis and Odenigbo can assess the field and realize they'd have much higher likelihood of seeing playing time with diminished Ohio State competition from fellow 2012 recruits.

Agreed.

The last two classes of DEs in Ohio have been pretty incredible. As an Ohio State fan you greedily want them all to be Buckeyes, but realistically it doesn't even make sense to have them all on the same team.

The depth chart will be much more appealing to '13 and '14 players- not to mention the black cloud will be entirely dispersed by then.

Completely agree, I see Shazier as an OLB, but really we have the depth on hand to red shirt Farris, Miller, Hayes, Bennett, and Hale. That Sir is a very strong statement. Best of luck to the young man:)

And the Blackshirts will also be dispersed. Scattered into pieces along the Great Plains by Brax the Slayer.

Good points. I was thinking Odenigbo as an OLB for my purposes. Personally I was hoping for Washington and McMullen (if we could only take two) and Odenigbo at OLB.

But, again, McMullen to NU is no surprise.
