Scout Evaluation said:
Carter isn't going to wow you with his athleticism, but he certainly will with his soft hands, ability to finish and touch around the basket. He emerged as a big name during the spring in between his sophomore and junior seasons. A high major recruit, Carter is one of the better low post prospects in the 2012 class because of his ability to score and overall presence in the paint.

Robert Carter has faced the best and lived to talk big about it.

The 6-foot-8, 240-pound power forward from Thomasville (Ga.) High School, who's No. 14 in the new ESPNU 100, battled the likes of 6-8 Shaq Goodwin (Decatur, Ga./Southwest DeKalb), 7-foot Isaiah Austin (Mansfield, Texas/Grace Preparatory) and 6-9 Tony Parker (Lithonia, Ga./Miller Grove) in the past year, and more showdowns are scheduled this summer as Carter travels with the Atlanta Xpress.

"They're big," Carter said, "but I don't really think they can guard me. You can't just be big and tall. You've got show your athleticism to go against the top bigs in the country."

Carter said he'd rather belong to this group of big men than the 2011 class, which featured incoming Kentucky freshman Anthony Davis out of Chicago, but little depth in the paint.

Carter is considering scholarship offers from several Southeastern Conference and Atlantic Coast Conference schools, including Georgia, Georgia Tech, Florida, Florida State and Kentucky, but he doesn't have a favorite.

"If I was the type of person who just wanted to get by easy, I'd prefer last year," Carter said. "But this class, I like, because you have to actually work."

ACC, SEC chasing Robert Carter Jr.
June, 8, 2011
By Adam Finkelstein, ESPN Recruiting

Robert Carter Jr. has dozens of high major scholarship offers to his name. Carter said this weekend at the Under Armour Best of the Best that Ohio State, Florida State, Florida, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Auburn, Alabama and "basically all of the ACC and SEC" had offered.

The one school Carter isn't quite sure about is Kentucky. While multiple media outlets reported an offer from John Calipari in recent weeks, Carter described the status of that potential offer as "up in the air."

What the skilled big man does know for sure is that he is still open to all suitors and looking for the best spot to take his game to the next level.

"All of those conferences are strong," Carter said. "It's just finding somewhere I can go and get better so I can take my game to the next level."

Here?s a sneak preview of some prospects who will draw the attention of Matta and his assistants this month:

Robert Carter
Height, Weight: 6-7, 240
Position: Power Forward
School: Thomasville (Ga.) HS
ESPN Ranking: 4th among PFs, 14th overall in class of 2012
Considering: Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Kentucky, Ohio State
Camp This Week: adidas Invitational
Outlook: Carter is a premier athlete who could turn to football as some analysts believe he has the potential to wreak havoc as a lineman in the NFL. But there?s no question he could be tough to stop on the hardwood as well, especially as board-eating four-man who can keep possessions alive and power the ball inside. He doesn?t mind trying to score down low in key possessions and is a good target for guards making entry passes because of his soft hands. Matta, no doubt, also sees his potential to shoot facing the basket. Think Sullinger only less polished.

Gators show commitment to Carter

The first day of the July evaluation period for power forward Robert Carter (Thomasville, Ga./Thomasville) meant a small tournament with his Atlanta Express AAU team outside of Atlanta. Gathered in the crowd to watch Carter were assistants from Florida State and Georgia, as well as Jim Baron of Rhode Island. At 1 p.m. ET there was an unscheduled scrimmage and I was told FSU and Georgia dispatched assistants. Then, for the first official game of Carter's summer, in rolled Florida coach Billy Donovan and an assistant.

The move to go two-deep from the Gators is a sign. It means Donovan wants Carter bad enough to spend, essentially, his entire first day watching one key player. While most head coaches were in target-rich environments like Indianapolis, Donovan sent Carter a message as to how important he is. The traffic around Carter will thicken as the month wears on, but Donovan made the first impression.

However, Florida State will play a big part in Carter's recruitment. Atlanta Express coach Winfred Jordan was close to former FSU forward Chris Singleton, Jordan's son followed Singleton to FSU and is said to have a strong relationship with Seminoles coach Leonard Hamilton.
