With the 2010 high school season football coming to a close it's time to look ahead to the Class of 2012. Cali High Sports is the first site to come out with its list of the top players for 2012 as we unveil our Cali High's Top 15 which will be re-evaluated and expanded to a top 25 over the spring and summer. For a look at our 2011 rankings, click here.

We continue our countdown to #1 with Westview High School tight end Taylor McNamara a physically gifted prospect who is receiving intense interest from all across the country.

#9 Taylor McNamara

School: Westview

Position: Tight End

Height: 6'5

Weight: 235

Schools Considering: Arizona, Ohio State, Maryland, Kentucky, Florida State

NFL Comparison: Todd Heap

The Class of 2012 has probably the biggest group of elite tight ends of the last 10 classes of California football. Leading that elite group? Westview High School's Taylor McNamara. McNamara has all the size needed to play at the highest level of D1 football and is rapidly improving skill set makes him a guy who could walk on a campus and contribute right away.

As a pass catcher coming out of the tight end position, McNamara shows great hands but even better awareness. He runs his routes precisely and fluidly but has really shown a knack for finding the soft spot in the defense. Taylor knows how to find open space and makes himself a very easy target for his quarterbacks.

TomVH: TE Taylor McNamara Offered | mgoblog

I have written about California TE Taylor McNamara a few times now. One of those times was here in my Weekly Update. McNamara had been told by the Michigan coaches that he would be recruited heavily, since he's from the San Diego area and they were familiar with him. He was offered yesterday by tight end coach Dan Ferrigno, and was pretty excited by the news.

They told me they were going to offer soon, and then Coach Ferrigno said you have an offer from Michigan yesterday. I'm going to try to make it out there, but it gets expensive and there's only so many junior days you can make it to. If I don't get out there for that I'll take an official visit or something else.

Something to keep an eye on before you get too excited is that Ohio State is one of his favorites. They had dropped on his list because they hadn't been in too much contact with him. He's scheduled to talk to a coach from OSU in about a week. If they pick up their recruitment of him, they might be pretty hard to beat. I believe they have already offered. He's also interested in Oregon and Notre Dame among others.

USC, Miami offer TE Taylor McNamara
February, 18, 2011
By Greg Biggins

Westview (San Diego, Calif.) tight end Taylor McNamara picked up two big offers over the last few days.

After nearly committing to childhood favorite Ohio State just a few months ago, the ESPNU 150 Watch List prospect decided he wanted to go through the recruiting process and his options have grown quite a bit in recent weeks.

"USC offered me Wednesday and then Miami just offered on Thursday. Both are big-time schools and I have a lot of interest in each of them. With USC, that's a school I was really hoping would offer. They've been recruiting me for a while but I wasn't sure it was going to happen.

"I talked to Lane Kiffin and he told me I had an offer and told me I would be a great fit in their offense. Then Miami offered and that's Tight End U right there so that got me really excited as well. I like their tight end coach, Brennan Carroll, a lot and I'm definitely going to check them out.

"Another reason why I'm excited by these offers is because they're such well-known schools, I think it could get other schools to offer me as well. Oregon and Notre Dame are two schools I really like a lot and hopefully they'll offer as well."

In addition to the Trojans and Canes, the tight end is also holding offers from Michigan, Stanford, Ohio State, Arizona, Washington, Cal, Florida State, Kentucky and Maryland.

Rivals $ - McNamara Remains Open

3/2

From BuckeyeGrove...caught up with OSU recently...recaps wanting to verbal and being told to wait by the OSU staff...junior days at USC and Cal coming up.

You won't hear me say this often but I think the staff messed up on this one...he should have been an early offer (still not sure if he really even has one but I assume he does) and his verbal should have been accepted...he is top 10 at his positions in the 2012 class, IMO. If OSU wants a TE in this class (and it seems like they do with McNamara and Kent Taylor being visitors last year and a reported offer to FL TE Laith Harlow) McNamara should have been the guy...but I digress...

I'm sure there is a legitimate reason for it. I trust Tress.

I trust the staff as well but no one is perfect.

They make a lot more good decisions than bad, but that doesn't mean they didn't screw this one up.

Guess we will have to wait and see. Will be interesting to see if he still ends up at OSU, or if OSU eventually gets a commitment from another TE and how he compares to McNamara.
