Junior Taylor McNamara names top three - ESPN

By Greg Biggins

Although just a junior, Taylor McNamara (San Diego, Calif./Westview) is already one of the top tight ends in the West region. He's hearing from colleges from all over the country and has six early scholarships offers on the table.

McNamara is a great looking prospect and has the prototype frame you look for in a future tight end. He's tall with broad shoulders and will have no problem adding 25-to-30 pounds when he hits the next level. He runs well for a big receiver, has very soft hands and is already an advanced blocker.

"Recruiting is going well right now," McNamara said. "I have verbal offers from Arizona, Ohio State, Florida State, Kentucky, Maryland, and Cincinnati. I'm also hearing a lot from Alabama, Clemson, Florida, USC, UCLA, Cal, Oregon, Nebraska, North Carolina State, Auburn, Northwestern, Minnesota, Tennessee, Michigan, Notre Dame and a few others.

"My dad grew up in Cleveland and as a result, Ohio State was my childhood favorite. My top three right now would be Ohio State, Arizona and Florida State. I've already taken unofficial visits to Ohio State, Arizona and USC and I definitely want to check out Florida State as well."

Rivals $ - McNamara slows down recruitment

11/3

Says he was close to committing to OSU but has backed off...says Arizona's recent success has him looking at the Wildcats...Arizona has been talking about Gronkowski with him and how he would be used in the offense will definitely play in...says OSU is still up there and also talks about FSU.

Free Rivals - West whispers: Carlisle keeps Cardinal guessing

Ohio State fans might be a littler perturbed. Standout 2012 tight end Taylor McNamara from San Diego (Calif.) Westview was so close to committing to the Buckeyes until he decided to wait things out - and now Arizona keeps moving up for the 6-foot-5, 235-pound recruit.

McNamara loves the way the Wildcats used Rob Gronkowski at tight end and thinks he can be utilized the same way. Ohio State, Arizona and Florida State are three early favorites.

Free Rivals - NCAA rule backfiring on juniors

"It's definitely confusing," San Diego (Calif.) Westview tight end Taylor McNamara said. "I don't like the rule at all. It's kind of hard to know. You want to know where you're wanted most and it's really hard to tell now. It makes it hard because you don't really know where you can go. It would be a lot easier if they had the written offers. You wouldn't be wondering if you could commit to a school or not. ...

"I did get one letter but I wouldn't really call it an offer. It was a letter telling me that they were going to offer me when I was eligible to receive it, as soon as it was allowed. It was kind of weird."

McNamara said one school in particular left him feeling a bit in the dark. He does not fault Ohio State, though, as he feels the NCAA has tied the hands of colleges.

"With Ohio State, it was really confusing," he said. "I think they went out of their way to make sure that they didn't break any NCAA rules. When I left, I didn't know if I had an offer or not. They said they loved me and everything. When I left, my coach told me that I did (have an offer) and that he talked to their coaches.

"It was really confusing leaving because I didn't really know if I had one. I've talked to them since then and they still haven't said directly that I have an offer. They definitely treat me like I do, though. I went out there for a visit and they really wanted me to come there, so I'd say I have an offer."

Hey Wad or anyone else that knows for that matter:

I am more than a little confused as to what the actual rules are regarding offering a kid. In the Bam Bradley thread it appears as if we cannot even make contact until a certain time, but then here it appears we made contact, had him in for a visit, but couldn't extend an official offer. Are there rules for when you can "Verbally" offer someone? Or is that the Bam situation where you can only "Verbally" offer if they contact you? Is the staff even allowed to use the words verbal offer? Sorry for the mini hijack - and please remove if not in the right thread - but a little light on this would be helpful. Thanks in advance
