As Deety said, "hmmm." I didn't notice the adverb / adjective mix-up until Bucky Katt pointed it out. What I zeroed in on was the "Eleven million people is..." followed by ..."and therefore are..." Is it is or is it are? The two verbs should agree.

Now, if he had instead said, "Eleven million is an awful large number of folks" (leaving out the word "people"), then "is" would be correct since it is referring to the number itself and not the actual amount of people to which the number is referring.

Also, I'm almost certain he meant "eleventy."
