Prepare for Takeoff
Blowing up!

Those could be two words to describe Brunswick senior Pay Forsythe. The 6-foot-10, 210-pound senior, who just turned 17 in July, is garnering the attention of some of the country?s best college basketball programs.

Though, for much of Forsythe?s career he has gone relatively unnoticed for a kid with good size.

?He has never put up staggering numbers and has never played on a great AAU team, therefore, he has virtually gone unknown until now,? relayed Forsythe?s head coach at Brunswick, Joe Mackey.

So why has the attention for the Brunswick big man suddenly skyrocketed?

?He was first noticed in (Las) Vegas by (UT) Chattanooga, who later offered him his first full ride,?? Mackey noted. ?I sent hundreds of emails to Ohio schools hoping to spark an interest and got nothing.

Finally, I called Wright State and begged them to come and watch our kid. The assistant loved him. The head coach came the next week and offered. Then Akron came in and offered. Since then every mid-major school that has seen him has offered right there on the spot.?

Those schools include Utah State, James Madison, Duquesne, and Toledo.

The stakes are getting even higher.

?We had Indiana, Georgetown, Ohio State, Cincinnati, Virginia Tech, and West Virginia all in our gym recruiting him within the last week,? stated the Brunswick boss. ?Cincinnati and Virginia Tech?s head coach will be in Monday. I think both will offer.

Bob Huggins will be in Tuesday and Thad Matta may be in Wednesday. He is going to their (OSU) football game this weekend against Indiana.?

Forsythe averaged around seven points and eight rebounds a game as a junior, and blocked a school-record 56 shots. In addition, he is the school?s all-time leader in blocked shots.

Colleges from Division 1 to Division 3 are all looking for big men, so when one with major potential surfaces coaches will be all over that individual like a cheap suit.

?Colleges love his size and his feet,? Mackey declared. ?He has tremendous footwork and work ethic.?

He has made an official visit to UT Chattanooga and is going to Wright State today.
?West Virginia wants him on an official visit next weekend and Virginia Tech the following weekend,? Mackey said.

With all the attention, it would be easy for Forsythe to become overwhelmed.

?Although it has happened so fast for him, Pat is taking the recruiting process well,? mentioned Mackey. ?It has been a crazy week!?

He has some basic offensive skills but I would need to see him play on the defensive side. He certainly needs to put on a little weight and build up his stamina with some good meat and mashed potatoes will do.

Forsythe looks like a legit 6'10".
Really good shooting, dribbling, and passing skills
He is a forward, not a center.

Would like to see some senior game film from this upcoming season before a possible offer.

Really thin body and lacks strength.

It will come down to how he performs in games against all types of players.

Brunswick basketball standout Pat Forsythe headed to West Virginia University
Tim Rogers, The Plain Dealer, October 18, 2010

BRUNSWICK, Ohio - Brunswick senior post player Pat Forsythe made an oral commitment to West Virginia today during a meeting with coach Bob Huggins in Morgantown, capping a whirlwind courtship in which he went from a Division II prospect to a Division I recruit in a matter of seven months.

"Pat went from a virtual unknown to one of the top big-man recruits in the country," said Brunswick coach Joe Mackey, who accompanied Forsythe (6-10, 210) to West Virginia.

"He is not listed in any of the magazines or the recruiting lists. But, he was noticed during a tournament in Las Vegas at the end of July and things snowballed from there."

Forsythe's stock rose because of the improvement he made since March when the Blue Devils were eliminated in the district tournament, Mackey said.

"I have never seen a player improve as drastically as Pat in such a short period of time," said Mackey. "He's put on 25 pounds from last year. He's always had good footwork and now it's better. He's always had good hands and now they're better. He is a lot stronger now too."

Forsythe, who made his decision after an official visit to Morgantown last week, said he is glad the recruiting process has ended.

"It went pretty fast but I'm relieved," he said, adding he will study business management. "I really like coach Huggins and the school. I think he is the kind of coach who will get the best out of me and make me a better player. The whole operation is first-class."

WVU's gain could be Ohio State's loss. Mackey said OSU rescinded its scholarship offer Monday morning after receiving a commitment from 6-9 Trey McDonald of Battle Creek, Mich., on Sunday.

OSU joined Akron, Virginia Tech, Duquesne, James Madison, Toledo, Wright State and Tennessee-Chattanooga in making offers.

That Forsythe was an unknown is no surprise. He played the first 12 games of the season in a brace while he recovered from a fractured vertebrae. He went on to average five points and about seven rebounds game on a team that finished with a 17-5 record.

"I started working on this year as soon as last season ended," said Forsythe, whose sister, Brooke, plays at American University. "I think I have improved a lot."

Forsythe transferring out of WVU basketball program
By Mitch Vingle

West Virginia University basketball center Pat Forsythe is transferring out of the Mountaineer program, according to coach Bob Huggins.

"Probably to Akron," Huggins said Thursday night.

Forsythe was a 6-foot-11 redshirt freshman for WVU from Brunswick, Ohio. He was known for his lateral quickness, footwork and ability to run the floor, but battled injuries while in Morgantown.

Forsythe received a hardship waiver and missed the majority of the season with a stress fracture in his right ankle. He appeared in seven games and averaged 2.1 points and 3.4 rebounds. He had four points against Akron and Mississippi State and a season-high seven rebounds against Alcorn State.
