Evaluation

March, 2010: One of the top players nationally in the 2011 class, Miller is a long athletic player that draws comparisons to Kevin Durant. The skilled forward scores in a variety of ways, but was most effective taking his opponent off the dribble or knocking down threes from the perimeter. What is most impressive about the charismatic Miller is the extraordinary skill set that he brings as a 6'9 player; he does it all! He has a guard mentality in a forwards body. He blocks shots, rebounds on both ends, handles and passes the ball, knocks down 3's and defends. He is always a joy to watch.

Quincy identifies tOSU as a school that is recruiting him and he has interest.

Quincy Miller
(High Point N.C./Westchester Country Day)
2011, SF, 6-foot-9
The versatile athlete is at his best when he utilizes the entire floor to score the ball. Miller has all the tools to produce a double-double every time he steps on the floor. He is very good at grabbing a defensive rebound and taking a bust out dribble to lead the fast break .Behind the arc, he shoots the ball with confidence and you can tell he has spent time working on his 3-point shot. He demonstrates excellent vision and a willingness to make an assist. Drives opponents into the paint and scores with his natural ability and instincts. He can hurt defenses in the paint area at the mid/low block with his footwork, length and soft touch. Defensively, he blocks shots to get the transition game going. His overall body strength will continue to improve, but he needs to give a consistent effort at all times.

Quincy Miller Keeping Options Open

Quincy Miller has plenty of college options and he?s not shutting any doors right now.

A 6-foot-10, 210-pound power forward from High Point (N.C.) Westchester Country Day ranked as the No. 3 player at his position in the Class of 2011, Miller rattled off an impressive list of college offers.

?Syracuse, Kentucky, Wake Forest, Illinois, Duke, Memphis, Texas, Tennessee, Baylor, N.C. State and Oklahoma,? Miller said by phone from the USA U18 team trials in San Antonio, Texas.

Miller said he has no favorites and no timetable in mind.

?I visited Duke a couple times, Kentucky, Wake Forest, N.C. State,? he said.

Surrounded by talented players on the U18 team, Miller, like his uncommitted teammate Austin Rivers, has no shortage of people telling him where to go.

?Yeah, all the players,? Miller said. ?Patric [Young], he?s like, ?You?re coming to Florida.? Kyrie [Irving] says the same stuff, that I?m coming with him [to Duke]. Josh [Hairston] says the same thing. Abdul [Gaddy] says I?m coming to Washington.?

Miller laughs at the pressure and says, ?I?ll play with any one of them. All of them are great players.?

As far as his high school plans, Miller said he considered transferring to Henderson (Nev.) Findlay Prep, but will most likely stay at Westchester Country Day.

?I think I?m going to stay at my old high school,? he said.

Going against players like Hairston, Young, Tony Mitchell and Amir Williams helps Miller test his skills and learning from coaches like Jeff Capel of Oklahoma is also opening new doors.

?Most definitely, we go so hard that everybody?s elevating their game,? he said. ?I learned so much. I can?t even tell you how much I?ve learned these last few days.?

The ultimate goal, of course, is to win it all in San Antonio.

?Most definitely,? he said. ?We have to win the gold medal.?

Miller keeping schools guessing
By Jerry Tipton / [email protected]

INDIANAPOLIS ? Quincy Miller, the next big recruiting target for Kentucky, flashed his playful side at the Adidas Invitational Tuesday. Not even his team's 92-66 loss prevented him from keeping a conversation with reporters light and friendly.

Yes, Miller said, he knew that UK had already gotten commitments from two other top 10 prospects in the high school class of 2011. That being forward Michael Gilchrist and point guard Marquis Teague.

"They're getting a bunch of good players," he said.

When asked if such a great start to the recruiting year made him more or less attracted to Kentucky, Miller smiled and said, "I could join them."

Then after a pause, he added, "They probably have too many guys."

With that, Miller added, "I'll keep you guessing."

Miller, a versatile forward listed at 6-foot-10 and 210 pounds, was more direct when it came to the subject of John Wall. "My brother," he called Wall.

As for recruiting, Miller has a long list of schools. He all but recited the schools: "Kentucky. Oklahoma. Wake Forest. Memphis. Duke. Texas. Tennessee. Uh, Syracuse. Ohio State."

In that order? "No. I don't have an order yet," he said.

So much for the speculation that Kentucky had slipped.

"Nobody's sticking out right now," he said. "Nobody's above anyone else."

Although he failed to mention Louisville in the recitation, the Cardinals are in the race. Again, the NBA influence helps put U of L in the running.

"I know they have a lot of pros they've developed," he said. "I like that."

Here are a few nuggets from the day:

The storyline of the week continues to be the nation's No. 2 ranked Class of 2011 prospect Quincy Miller. He had a sudden shift in schools towards the top of his list this week and from all indications Louisville and Baylor are among the frontrunners. He still mentioned several other schools on Tuesday, including Kentucky, Duke, Ohio State and Syracuse. But to take it another strange step only Louisville coaches were seen at his afternoon game and Louisville and Baylor were the only ones at the evening game. Oh, and the Cardinals had him triple-teamed with Rick Pitino, Tim Fuller and Steve Masiello. Not sure anyone knows where this one is headed but I will try to keep up the best I can throughout the next few weeks. Miller won't play again until Las Vegas on July 20.

Miller tweets his list
One of the hottest storylines from the first 10-day evaluation period for college basketball prospects was that of North Carolina standout Quincy Miller.

The 6-foot-9 Miller, who is ranked as the No. 2 prospect nationally by Rivals and Scout, tweeted on Wednesday night that he has a new list of schools.

The list includes Kentucky, Louisville, Baylor, Texas, Duke, Wake Forest, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State.

During the adidas Invitational in Indianapolis, Miller said he was "feeling Louisville" because of a relationship with new assistant coach Tim Fuller. Miller had previously been considered a Kentucky "lean." But at the event noted he wanted to "keep you guessing."

Miller and his D-One Sports team will be playing in the adidas Super 64 in Las Vegas beginning next Thursday.

Rivals.com Basketball Recruiting - Ask the Experts: Five-star commitment coming? (free)

Question: Which five-star do you anticipate being the next to commit?

Answer: Meyer: I wouldn't be surprised if Pitino received a commitment from Quincy Miller sooner than later. Now, I'm not saying it is a done deal that Miller is headed to Louisville or that he even commits before the spring. But it appears that Louisville has made significant headway with Miller and his teammate Deuce Bello. Presently, there is heavy speculation that the two end up at Louisville in the near future.

Bossi: It's not always easy to predict something like this but my best guess would be Quincy Miller. While he seems to enjoy the recruiting process, there are a lot of signs pointing to Louisville and nobody else seems to have a bunch of buzz around them.

Westchester pair plans to go to Baylor
By JOURNAL STAFF AND WIRE REPORT
Published: October 22, 2010

Quincy Miller and Deuce Bello, senior basketball players at High Point Westchester, have committed to play at Baylor, Coach Pat Kahny of Westchester said yesterday.

Miller, a 6-10 forward who played the past two seasons at Quality Education Academy in Winston-Salem before transferring to Westchester in the spring, is among the top-rated players in the nation in the class of 2011. He averaged 25.2 points, 12 rebounds and five assists last season at QEA.

Miller had scholarship offers from most major-college programs in the nation.
