"(The Ohio State offer) made me feel real good. (Thad Matta) told me when he was watching me play, all it took was four minutes for him to know he wanted to offer a scholarship. I hated Ohio State when I was younger. (But) I have had the chance to go down and visit the campus and talk with the coaches, and I have really gotten to know them very well. I am getting to know them in a different light."
All three coaching staffs have made very positive impressions on Scout.com's No. 11 shooting guard. That has made it extremely difficult to determine which he likes best.
"When I talk to Coach Beilein and Coach Matta I get the feeling they really want me," said Kearney. "Coach Izzo does that as well. They have different personalities. Coach Beilein and Matta are laid back and smooth with it, and Coach Izzo is the rah-rah type. The coaching staffs are very diverse and I like the way they work."
Because all three coaches are thought of so favorably, there likely will be other discerning factors for their programs.
"I am looking for good academics because that is very important," said Kearney. "Then I want a coach who is good at player development. Last I would like to feel wanted by a school. Those things are important to me."
The player development component may be the reason a new and unproven program has suddenly jumped into the mix.
Kearney's father said they also are trying to arrange a visit to Columbus but are booked at Kentucky on Sept.26, when the Wildcats play host to No.1 Florida. The Buckeyes' next home game after that is Oct. 10 against Wisconsin.

Report: Detroit Southeastern's Brandan Kearney to pick MSU
Eric Lacy / The Detroit News
Brandan Kearney of Detroit Southeastern, one of the top basketball recruits in the state for 2011, is expected to pick Michigan State, according to a report.
Kearney is expected to announce on Nov. 3 his intention to attend MSU over Michigan, Minnesota and Ohio State, GoSpartans.net is reporting.
Kearney, a 6-foot-4, 175-pound small forward, is considered a four-star recruit by Scout.com and the No. 9 player at his position in the country.
If Kearney becomes a Spartan, he would be MSU's first commitment for the 2011 class.
