Underclassman MVP :: Kenny Mullen – CB – Fort Wayne Bishop Luers (Ind.) :: Class of 2011
Mullen was right there with (Mylan) Hicks as the day’s best cover corner. In fact, out of all defensive backs, he made the most plays on the ball. He had a great play where he recovered on a double move by (DeAnthony) Arnett, cut in front of the route, batted the pass up in the air and came down with the interception. He has change of direction and instincts, which allow him to get the early jump on routes. He also has great ball skills.

Mullen seems like a very good player, but I am not sure if I believe he really has an offer or not.

It just doesn't seem to fit Tressel's past history. One, Tressel is extremely stingy with early offers, especially out of state. Unless a guy is a surefire, national top 50 type guy, he usually doesn't get an offer from JT in November of his junior year. Two, Tressel seems to really prefer bigger CBs and very rarely offers smaller guys (Joyner is really the only exception to this rule and he is a physical freak).

You put those two things together and it seems a bit suspicious that an undersized out-of-state CB would really have an OSU offer at this really early time. No inside info at all, just an observation based on history.

By Brian Snow...recaps his junior year...talks about how much he enjoyed the combine in San Antonio...receiving interest from Iowa, Indiana, Purdue (verbal offer), Ohio State, Michigan State, Nebraska, Alabama, UCLA and Oregon...OSU has told him they want to see him at camp.

Changing the thread title to reflect no offer as of this time...

DeAnthony Arnett among brightest stars at Michigan Football Showcase

"Mullen was the toughest corner for receivers to shake from on the day," Trieu said. "He has very natural cover skills and instincts. I don't think he's the fastest corner out there or the biggest, but he has solid feet, hips and technique. He also has good ball skills. He took on the best receivers and did a very solid job."

The recruiting picture is still quite hazy for Mullen, who reports only a Purdue offer. But he hopes to receive more interest from Michigan and Ohio State.
